Rating: Transitivity is that property of binary relations which states that if A is equal (or related) to B and B is equal (or related) to C, then A is equal (or related) to C. In everyday life, this property is difficult to find or demonstrate and is therefore often used with a somewhat pretentious tone when one wants to assert something.
I'll be pretentious. I love Julie Delpy. Why? Let's use transitivity. I would say that to appease the more "commercial" minds, Julie Delpy was loved (metaphorically) by Roger Avary, who wanted her as the protagonist for his directing debut in Killing Zoe (Zoe is Julie). Come on, it's impossible to forget that slowed scene of Julie staring at us with her eyes as she moves above "us". Roger Avary is better known as a writer than as a director, having written screenplays like Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and, uncredited, that massive masterpiece called "True Romance" by Tony Scott.
But let's get back to Julie. Julie entered the heart of another director. A Pole. Someone named Krzysztof Kieslowski. Yes, you know... that director... the one who created and directed... what are they called? ...oh... the "Three Colors"...yes indeed... that trilogy there... nothing special... after all, it's just three films about the three colors of the French flag... some consider them one of the most incredible works modern cinematography has ever offered us, and I am one of those. Indeed. Julie is the protagonist of the second "White Film" (but she also appears in the other two), and never was a color more fitting, for the candor she communicates and radiates.
And then Richard Linklater also fell in love with her, built a thought around her, first of all, and then a film, a classic like "Before Sunrise". I don't know how many have ever considered this film. Maybe I am sappy. But it's one of the reasons that pushed me to visit Vienna. It's the constant hope that sooner or later it will be released on DVD and that one can fall in love for life meeting someone in just a few hours. It's a poetic film, unpretentious, without excesses, like when on a spring morning you wake up and notice that the cherry tree has blossomed. But isn't that also the most beautiful thing in the world? And right these days, Linklater has continued his thought with "Before Sunset" which brings the two protagonists of the first film together again (with Julie also Ethan Hawke), but this time in Paris... oh Paris...
This is who Julie is. Then she also made an album in 2003. It's useless to give a judgment. It would only be subjective. Worth noting, if you really want to listen to a song, Mr. Unhappy, track 2. For the other 11, however, you need to love Julie and maybe imagine her in front of you, with her guitar in hand, with her blonde hair, with her smile, and with lots of... imagination :-)
