"Etnofunkpsichidelismo," this could be the most appropriate definition for this epoch-making album. America and Africa meeting halfway: master of ceremonies His Excellency Brian Eno..." Thus began my review, which I will be careful not to send, having "missed" with Cleo already once with David Sylvian.
All this fuss to extend my best wishes to you.

Gabri, you’re not old enough to remember. :-)

Thank goodness you and Grass are here to help me. :-) She was on my list of artists to introduce. The rating seems a bit harsh. What do you think, should we give the sweet lady a 4?

I don't quite agree with this common idea of hedonism, especially when it comes to the Style. The lyrics, particularly of "Café Bleu," are far removed from that way of looking at life. Weller and Talbot were politically engaged even back then and strongly opposed to the rampant Thatcherism in 1980s England. They were among the founders of an artists' association, along with Billy Bragg, called, if I'm not mistaken, "Red Wave," which supported the striking miners' movement.

The guidance of the psychopomp is essential, even if I would like to postpone the meeting, if you don't mind. I believe Hal thinks the same way as I do. ;-)
Thank you both, anyway.

It's not possible! Once again, you got ahead of me. I was just thinking whether I should review it, considering that, like Joe Jackson and Fagen, this album has had a significant impact on my musical upbringing. If I had talked about it, I would have definitely gotten carried away. It forms a nice jazzy '80s trio, along with "Working Nights" by Working Week and "Eden" by Everything But The Girl (Sade as a backup). What do I do? Do I go for "Our Favourite Shop"? Someone might say: is it a promise or a threat? ;-)

Thank you for the compliments and for the trust, which I reciprocate not out of mere courtesy. I can only tell you that the pleasure and delight of writing about music are such that the ratings, at least for me, certainly take a back seat. It can be a game, sometimes a bit cruel, to which one must adhere without too much complaining. The mere possibility of being read and commented on by knowledgeable and sensitive people like you and others who frequent DeBaser fully compensates me for all the bad ratings that will inevitably come. :-)

You catch me off guard, but I will take cover. I will definitely let you know. ;-)

Although I am a fan of Springsteen, whom I saw live in Turin back in '87, I have never listened to this album in its entirety, which for some irrational reasons I have always tried to avoid. It's time to understand why.
Great review.

I'm glad you like it. I'm listening to "Home" and it's also a really great album. It reminds me a bit of Kurt Wagner.
