No, it wasn't actually referring to this album; it was a more generalized discussion ;) I was referring to the fact that a death metal album, in 2005, could never be a masterpiece for me because it simply doesn't add anything to what has already been done in the previous 20 years of history.

Honestly, I find it a bit anachronistic to play death metal in 2005, even though I appreciate bands that do or did it (Carcass, Morbid Angel, Dark Tranquillity, the very same Death…). What I wonder is what sense it makes to revisit a genre in the same way as the bands did 20 years ago, in a time when metal is evolving and changing. Is there not a risk of sounding outdated and repetitive? If it's done well, then credit is due, but for my part, I would never define a death metal album released in 2005 as a MASTERPIECE. Nevertheless, the review rocks, well done Stefano! :))
