I completely agree, Hal, it's a totally useless album. When I saw the featuring of Christina Aguilera, I couldn't believe my eyes. The cover is outrageous too; it really looks like a compilation of prerecording MIDI backing tracks from a piano bar. I have no words. The days of "Head Hunters," alas, are long gone...

No, but I do enjoy galactic sagas, just let's say... in particular psycho-physical conditions ;-) I admit I need to listen to Faust and Neu better; I played "Faust Vs. Dalek" the other day and appreciated it quite a lot. However, I didn't say I don't like Kraut; in fact, I might love it more than "traditional rock," but coming from "DJ-Culture," I'm automatically inclined to venerate those four :D

Yes Heron, but after a while the cosmic sagas fill me with frustration, I want rhythm damn it! :D

Come on, would Techno even exist without them?? Without "The Robots"? Without "Metropolis"? Without "The Man Machine", I mean the track, for me there wouldn't even have been IDM and the more intelligent Techno (does the term "Tri Repetae" ring a bell? Would it have existed even without Hutter and company?). I agree with you when you say that Drum'n'Bass and indeed Techno have more complex structures, but they draw from a certain use of the "digital" perfected and implemented by Kraftwerk. Other Krautrock bands do have hints of modern electronics (like in "Future Days" by CAN, which is an absolute masterpiece), but they remain sporadic episodes, advanced by Kraftwerk with a mindset and results closer to the modern concept of "producing electronic music," which is why I consider them the true pioneers. Damn, what a discussion, I love these four too much :D

Aphex Twin doesn't come from Kraftwerk, right? I have my doubts about this statement... For me, if Kraftwerk hadn't existed, there wouldn't have been electronic music for the next 30 years. This is because Kraftwerk had the great merit of channeling the "galactic" experimentalism of Kraut into a song form that was most suited to the subsequent developments of electronic music. Without them, we wouldn't have had New Wave, the Synth-Pop of the '80s (your beloved Miles Davis wouldn’t have been able to record "Tutu" without them), Techno, House, Drum'n'Bass, Hip-Hop (the title track of "The Man Machine" is pure rap to the core), or they would have developed in a radically different way from how we know them today. I don't doubt the strong influences of Popol Vuh or Tangerine Dream on modern music (just listen to the Orb taking inspiration from the cosmic-galactic suites of Schulze and company), but there’s no comparison with the 4 krauts from Düsseldorf! ;-))

No, but let’s be clear, I love albums like those of Can, Faust, Neu!, or Tangerine Dream; it’s contemporary music that was ahead of its time and has also been somewhat pillaged by everyone. However, making a comparison, I don't know, between "Zeit" or "The Man Machine," despite both being masterpieces, I blindly lean towards the latter—I don’t even think about it! :D

Great, Francesco, I think I’ll get everything you’ve reviewed in bulk :-) Saludos

Well, I definitely vote for the later ones, they are closer to the electronic music that I prefer and listen to. I can't say anything against kraut and the influences of their early records, but hey... after a while they really grind my gears :D

Nice phrase, odra :-) no, I haven't listened to Jarmusch's group, honestly I'm not particularly keen on artists "intruding" into other fields, although some have done it well (like Battiato in cinema). Megaprops to Michele Apicella, when's the next CD produced by Butch Vig coming out?
