Well, I would simply say that at least in the first half of the '80s, some amazing albums were released and vital movements for modern music like New Wave and Synth-Pop developed. They might not be to everyone's liking, of course, but certain positions of total idiosyncrasy towards that period can seem a bit pretentious and sometimes unfounded...
