The Last Poets Live @ Melkweg - Amsterdam, XX secolo

Of course, Leonid, their style wasn't canonical Rap; let's say it was more like spoken words close to Slam poetry and readings à la Ursula Rucker (to whom I owe a lot from the LPs). However, if you listen closely, you can notice numerous similarities with the genre: the revolutionary mood, the funk-percussive beats that would become a must in the following decades of the '80s and '90s, the rhyming or simply the flow of words over the beat. If not canonical Rap, definitely something very close ;-)

I see many of my friends elevating them to the status of an absolutely revered cult band, but it's a pity I still can’t fully understand the reasons. Their sound seems to me like honest Pop-Rock without excessive pretensions, with a healthy pinch of Irish Folk to reinforce it all. I don’t dislike the album, even though I prefer their earlier works, but I repeat, nothing that makes me jump out of my seat :-)) A nostalgic review Kry, although I would have preferred a few more references to the content of the album ;-)

A huge voice of '70s Soul who has managed to reinvent herself and renew in recent years. The collaboration with Massive Attack for their new single is also noteworthy. A great find today, even though it feels more like reading a very detailed biography of the artist rather than a review of the excellent album in question :-))

The Godfather Of Rap Music. Is that enough to understand the genre? :-) Well done, Leonid, I envy you both for having seen them live and for the unintentionally intimate and unique atmosphere of the concert you attended. 5 by default

Honestly, I don't find it outdated at all; on the contrary, for me, it remains a stellar album that I continue to listen to with great pleasure. Surely, to consider a work from '98 as outdated, you really have to nitpick ;-))

Regarding the content of the album, which I find absolutely enjoyable (especially the RMX by Slum Village). Whether it's a marketing gimmick or not, I don't see anything so outrageous about it... and I even found it for much less than 20 euros ;-)

But am I mistaken or has someone already reviewed it? ;-)) Do you even consider it better than "The Fat Of The Land"?
