A friend who was talking to me about the book on Van Gogh, some pages from the diary of Anaïs Nin, who was his friend, that feverish visionary face, a small fragment translated by Ceronetti: these are the few things I know... then, here it is, theater... theater for me is poetry in three (only three?) dimensions. It was uncomfortable... the extraparliamentary left never forgave him for the exit after Valle Giulia, for the PCI he was too heretical and too gay (sorry), the right, well, the right even killed him... prophet? I don't know, if I had to synthesize the present I’d say Lutheran letters + Debord (and I apologize for the oversimplification), so yes, a bit of a prophet... for me he was important and I loved him very very much... thanks to him, for example, I got to know Sandro Penna, one of my favorite poets... but more than anything, his voice is dear to me; every time I hear it I feel a little shiver... then I think that some things we can no longer even understand, like the divinization of the Roman underclass... there was a time when the word 'people' had meaning; not just Pasolini, but also Penna, Saba, even De André, what the hell do we know about this stuff?... if the disaster was already there in '75, what can we say about today?... we are all becoming more and more alike and increasingly unhappy...
