I really liked his selected ambient bla bla that was for the soft moments. I never delved into his schizo side, even though I've played the album with his name a lot. "Come to daddy" is a classic song... that I've always associated (not sure if it fits, but anyway) with his more aggressive side, to the NIN (whom I prefer).

Regarding the whole issue of intentionally creating something ugly because of our era, I don't know. It's always worth understanding what "beautiful" means and what "ugly" means. I'd say I agree more with Zion. We need art that makes us feel and perceive the world as beautiful; which obviously doesn't mean that beauty is the social network selfie, huh.
