So, I start reading this review and I think: "Wow, this must be a great movie! Look at that nice recommendation from that dullard Puni!" Then I read Odradek's comments and I think: "Ahh, it seemed strange to me!" Good old Puni, you never let me down. You're a specialist in making a fool of yourself.

I remember this one being more "metallic" than the previous one, especially in the use of guitars (in some tracks tuned down to Dimebag Darrel of Pantera, who were all the rage back then). 3.5, half a point extra for the infamous nostalgia effect.

I don't know the early works of Death, I've only listened to "Human" and that was enough for me! You say the early ones are rawer? Maybe I'll give them a try.

Great review. I'm sorry for the woman who hates you. Maybe she didn't deserve you. I'll add this to my long shopping list. I remember Detari very well. He wasn't Hungarian, right? Skuravy (is it spelled like that)?

The prog-jazz-fusion elements in Death, as well as in other related bands (Cynic, Pestilence), have always seemed extremely boring and redundant to me. Just a personal opinion, of course. For me, extreme metal doesn't go through here. Cold and violently gratuitous music, made by note nerds for note nerds and nothing more. Then I think Morbid Angel came out first, right? But I could be wrong. Anyway, I liked the review. Cheers.

@BLECH: are you stupid? never. Maybe I found it smoother because it's divided into, well, short stories. Or maybe it was the enthusiasm. Who knows. Anyway: stupid no, fart machine yes!! :-)

Bleh, if you haven't read anything else by DFW besides this, I recommend the more accessible "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men" (the first one I read and perhaps the most focused) and "The Broom of the System" (long too, but more fluid). PROOOOOT

The Jane's were one of my 90's beacons. I also liked Porno for Pyros quite a bit. Then I stopped following them and I don’t think I will again. You’re good.

You had the courage to review a book like this. An absolute masterpiece, without any doubts. One of the most important voices of our century.
