Dave Eggers L'Opera Struggente di un Formidabile Genio

I bought it too, drawn in by the quote from the late Wallace: I didn’t like it. Too self-referential, too contrived, even though it talks about things that really happened to the author. It lacks a shred of DFW's talent. Much better when telling stories about others: I really enjoyed "Erano solo ragazzi in cammino," a book about the tragedy in Sudan. The review is excellent.

Ahhh, the beauty of snobbery... anyway, I think like you do. I don't go to see the theater. Especially for one fundamental reason: these last-minute indie-snobs don’t know how to MOSH. Raised on a diet of bread and Franz Ferdinand, they mosh with their elbows up (a forty-something friend of mine got 2 stitches on his lip: well, I told him, "what the hell are you doing??"), they're uncoordinated, they step on your feet while fixing their bangs: terrible. I wish I could take them on a time jump to a nice concert of Napalm, or Cro-Mags. These little shits.

"I could be wrong, you might be the classic guy who knows a lot about prog rock, etc., but when it comes to electronic music, you only know the various Chemical Brothers, Massive Attack, Aphex Twin and think that’s where it ends": exactly, you're mistaken. But I won't create a ranking to show how many I know. I can only tell you that the album I've enjoyed the most lately is the latest Shackleton. For you, Kosmo Swim is mediocre; for me and a hundred others, it's actually a good album; who's right? Nobody. Neither you nor I. That's the beauty of music. As for the rest: I confirm that you write well, but for me, there are too many technicalities. Can I say it? I can say it. I'm signing off now; I’ll be away for a while because of work.

damn you all, always reviewing these succulent discs that can’t be found! A link? Great review, very tasty indeed. Ah, Bender is a genius, now I’m convinced.

Anyway, I have to change my mind about Bender: I think he’s a genius. If he’s doing what I think he is, then he’s a genius. Otherwise, he’s just a rogue user ;)

Well, you know what... ;) So, to reply: I'm neither radical chic nor an average user of Ondarock. I'm not an indie-snob nor pseudo-alternative. I don't read Scaruffi. I listen to everything, from Meshuggah to Mulatu Astatke. I like reading magazines where talented journalists write, people I trust; Debaser is useful, but you'll agree with me that it's often very amateurish; nothing wrong with that, but I'm old school, I also like to read about music from professionals. This is to say that I have nothing against technical terms in reviews, but they need to be used wisely; you put in WAY TOO MANY, that's all. You got a bit carried away. I admit I’m not an expert in electronic music, I’ve been listening to it regularly for a year, but I've passionately listened to music for a lifetime, so I learn quickly. And I can tell you that Swim is not a mediocre album. I'm not the only one saying this, you know. Then again, taste is taste. The reviewed album may be well-known among IDM experts like you, but it's still a niche within a niche. And I always get the impression that you really like to dish out advice left and right (and consequently trash the "rated" stuff) to show off how knowledgeable you are (as evidenced by your 60-position rankings!); what you're doing is not sharing, it’s showing off. Oh, I might be wrong, but that’s the feeling I get.

The FF have some really good tracks, but (in my opinion) overall they are a bit overrated.
