Snow Patrol A Hundred Million Suns

I'm sorry, but I dissent from your vote. After their early, very indie-rock works, somewhere between Pavement and Mogwai, SP definitely changed course, moving towards a more straightforward pop rock, in full Coldplay style, yet managing to be significantly more convincing than the latter. We're talking about the doublet "Final Straw" and "Eyes Open." However, this last work left me rather cold. In my opinion, it is definitely inferior to the two previous ones, and can be considered a minor misstep for Lightbody and the gang. The songs don't bite (except for 2-3 exceptions), allowing themselves to be quickly forgotten. The suite, which you call "ambitious and experimental," for me is simply boring: it’s three lackluster songs stuck together. It's pretentious on their part to call it a "suite." Ultimately, it’s three scant stars, only because I think the band is valid and I hope they can quickly recover from this weak effort. Let it be clear that this is just a divergence of opinions regarding the judgment on the album. The review is well written, and for that, I give you my sincere compliments.

@Danverlaine: I'm sorry you didn't like it... anyway, it seems to me that the influences are quite highlighted in the review (I even mentioned some bands)... I can confirm that for me "Jetstream" is an electro-rock piece, I hear very little kraut in it. I can gladly do without the opinion of Mucchio :) hi and thanks for stopping by

Dear Frantz, it seems to me that, as usual, there’s a competition to see who has the longest dick. I think every average Debaser user knows very well how the various genres have evolved, what sociocultural substratum they come from, etc. You’re not telling us anything new (as Popoloitaliano rightly pointed out). The point is that you start from a wrong assumption. You almost seem to suggest that since music is closely tied to culture, the equation high culture = good music: low culture = shitty music holds true. Well, no. Music is linked to culture, obviously, as is any respectable form of art. But what you’re missing is that in modern societies, in addition to the dominant culture (and the countercultures that oppose it more or less effectively), there exist thousands of other niche movements, avant-gardes, etc., from which music draws to develop new trends and musical proposals. So those 4-5 bands you mentioned are just the tip of the iceberg. Ignoring the rest is presumptuous. And then... "popular music" is culture. Entertainment is culture. The "cultural manifestations" you mention sound so serious! There’s a concept, which I think you’re not familiar with, called "postmodernity"... go study it in your books and then come back here, you’ll see that you’ll understand that the Fuzztones and Pink Floyd have equal dignity and equal rights to be cited in the rock manuals you so thirstily consume. Bye.

To me, the pretentious comments like Frantz’s frankly make me furious. Who do you think you are to call garage revival a "crazy bullshit"? "Lysergic Emanations," "Radios Appear," the first two by the Fleshtones, are masterpieces of garage punk. Revival or not. And enough with this originality story... okay, after the Beatles and the Stooges there hasn’t been anything original, so what? We’re not talking about kraut-rock or electronic avant-garde here! It’s rock'n'roll, beautiful! Who claimed to be original? Does the word "revival" mean anything to you? And then... what the hell kind of comparison is that with Franz Ferdinand? That’s mainstream stuff, stadium rock; garage bands have never even come close to the success of the Killers... you’ve said a lot of bullshit, dear Frantz. Get down from that pedestal, will ya?

Well, it's easy to speak ill of these guys... it becomes the game of the wannabe writer. In my opinion, the best solution to not spread the plague of lousy reviews is to simply not comment on them anymore. Come on, let’s pretend this is the last comment on this joke (of course, any further comments from the reviewer don't count).

health to you, my Charon, with whom I am venturing into the foul and feral river of black... I’ve listened to the first of Ulver. Good stuff. I’m very intrigued by this piece you mentioned from Deathspell Omega... I think I’ll get it. great review, congratulations

Mr. Rock, I warn you that if you continue to persist with these persecutory attitudes towards Mr. De Lorenzo, you will be brought to the attention of the penetrating authorities, with an ad hoc Commission made up of the most organically gifted users of Debaser. Best regards.

@Nes: minilist shoegaze: in addition to those mentioned above (more than "Darklands" by Jesus, I would recommend "Psychocandy," a true manifesto), I would suggest Amusement Parks On Fire (both albums, the self-titled debut and the second one "Out Of The Angeles"), "Hideout" by Filmschool, and "Nowhere" by Ride. That should cover you.

Ah, like... I used to play with it, I used to let other people play with it... in short, we had fun, in friendship and harmony. Then you would put it away in the drawer, under the CDs. Ahhh, those were the days of "Didò" :)
