The problem with this album is, fundamentally, the production. She knows how to write and she knows how to sing, but already with "we are born" she was shifting towards a pop sound that's a bit too plastic for my tastes. However, her "some people have real problems" remains a remarkable album that I still enjoy listening to very much.

Erasure Cowboy

I have a huge crush on Erasure, but after "Erasure," this cowboy seemed like a bit of a flop. It has nothing to do with that almost masterpiece "Loveboat." I hardly listen to Cowboy anymore, and I don't mind that at all. Erasure alternate between good albums and a couple of lukewarm ones (after Loveboat, they only shine with "Nightbird" and "Union Street"). I think they’re running out of steam, but at least they've given me 5 or 6 essential records.

Good job. I've never understood all this hype either. A truly useless album.

a record that I keep listening to and interrupting after 7 tracks. even the much-praised Oysters doesn't reach the heights of her 90's works. and in any case, joni mitchell is superior to her. Joni is superior to everyone.

beautiful album, but you’re mistaken when you say "it tells us what it’s like to be fifty and realize that your family life no longer satisfies you." the album is NOT autobiographical. if you listen to the presentation interview of the album, you’ll realize that Natalie says she creates portraits not necessarily tied to her own biography, and she also mentions how much she prefers her maturity to her youth.
p.s. last month I was lucky enough to see her perform live in London and to hug her. for me, she is a notch above so many, including Tori Amos.

I wanted to know what he technically did. From half a video on YouTube, I gathered that he was basically just there to hit play.

I remember that I used to blast "labyrinth" to get pumped up before jumps from the plane when I was in the army.

I love this artist, but this album has never attracted me. It's an album, according to Almond himself, that is super flashy and extremely dated. Not to mention its troubled gestation, imposed by the label. When Almond is allowed to do things freely, in my opinion, he creates some of the most beautiful work (the stars we are, the albums with the Mambas, the one with Cashmore, etc.).
