missed opportunity. the album to review was TRIP THE LIGHT FANTASTIC from '07 (to which you dedicate a couple of lines of mention), definitely more refined and inspired than RML, which at times comes off as too "carnival." If you want to get to know her, start from there. Bextor should also be appreciated for the fact that she doesn’t try in any way to internationalize and maintains a perfect "English," devoid of any Euro-American protrusion.

It's a strange record that unsettled me quite a bit. I don't want to trash it because it's a work that has made my brain work overtime. The fact is, I listen to it very rarely. (Like all of Tricky's stuff, after all.) No time no space 4 trip hop in the 00's? Meh.

@CPTGAIO: I had to add... like almost all "modern" French films. The only thing I save from this film is the excellent soundtrack. The director is rubbish (he also directed that nonsense, A Very Long Engagement, right?)

I'm listening to it along with Teatro degli orrori. There are no comparisons to be made. It just happened. So: the sound is nice and compact, the guitar parts are beautiful (maybe a bit too prominent compared to the rest). The "backward" vocals can be, as you say, a more international stylistic choice, or (and this is my thought because I've done it too) a clever method to mask a less impactful singing, let’s say still immature, compared to the rest. The lyrics don't blow me away (but they are understandable). Anyway, well done. I don't understand why people say "the Iride have balls." Saviano has balls, if you allow me to say so. This is well-made music, but it remains music.
