Dear Language-Smasher, I am quite accustomed to the principles of grammaticalization, and you are indeed right to say that language tends to simplify rather than complicate! However, it is true that in recent years it has leaned too much towards reductionism: music, politics, aesthetics of the senses, etc., etc. It is my desire that everything can (as a great German poet wrote) <happen at eye level> and that I am not forced to look only downwards, in order to avoid the messes found in such low places.
