Franco Battiato La voce del padrone
Voto:
I share the praise for the "seventies" Battiato (with a special mention for his likable, enjoyable, and not to be despised early works). However, this album is perfectly successful and made me "dance" quite a bit in my younger days: three is just too few.

Hi gbrunoro. Thank you for the quick reply! The question arose from the fact that I had the doubt that the story told in the novel wouldn’t end and that a sequel might be needed. Anyway, don’t worry, you didn’t give away any "spoilers"! I’ll let you know what I think of the book later.

Captivating review. You piqued my curiosity, and although I prefer detectives who scrape by with a whiskey too many and a couple of failed marriages behind them (in the case of characters played by Bruce Willis, you forgot to mention the habit of jumping from the ninetieth floor of a burning skyscraper after a fierce hand-to-hand fight against a dangerous gang of Eastern European terrorists armed to the teeth, but those are details), I will look for the book even though I'm not familiar with the author. However, the ending of the review is (for me) cryptic, and I ask you: did you not write the ending because the novel concludes in a surprising and/or unexpected way, or because reading a possible sequel is necessary?

Just a great review, doc. I read it because I was struck by the "particularity" of the subject matter, but I liked it a lot: light (like the subject matter), but well written.
Mina Sulla Tua Bocca Lo Dirò

Has Mina left Italy? You drove her crazy, and she doesn’t want to know anymore. You showered her with billions, treated her like a queen. But what did she have to do? And now she has nothing to show for it!

Beautiful review. But, setting aside the (relative) appreciation for a (former) good author, I don’t agree with all the content. Marxism and populism have very little in common. Marxism and freedom are awareness: a characteristic that is absent in populism. How does Naples differ from the rest of Italy? In Naples, there are those who struggle to put a meal on the table at lunchtime, but they never miss out on brand-name clothes, go on vacation to Sharm (yes, just like Paolo!), and get into debt with finance companies to buy a new car. The rest is largely rhetoric; the romantic Naples so often sung by Pino Daniele (and which still helps him sell records of questionable quality) no longer exists: just change neighborhoods to be eyed up and down, and if you’re a kid, there are even those who will beat you up to steal your super santos. Just like in many peripheral neighborhoods of the North. That’s how life is in Naples, but all of this, in the absence of a state (a complacent state) and under the great shadow of the Camorra, takes on “exaggerated” contours. And if everyone continues to leave, it’s because there are no jobs here—there never have been, given that there are almost more Scognamiglio and Esposito in the outskirts of Milan than in Naples. And yes, there is no future either, because you can’t survive on just punk unless your name is Joe Strummer. Finally, there is a Naples that pays, but there is also a Naples that is fine with all this because, even when things go wrong, there are those in Via Tasso, Posillipo, and Via Manzoni who live better than a king. Gennarino Parsifal has spoken! Ps And anyway, Lavezzi is Maradona's guallera (don't touch the 10).

Review among my favorites (actually, it’s my “first favorite”). I don’t know this album, so (for now) I won’t rate it. I'll have to get it. What else to say? "Finally someone who writes without getting lost in chatter but explains the album and also encourages you to buy it." (quote)
Wes Anderson Le avventure acquatiche di Steve Zissou
Voto:
I always approach Wes Anderson with suspicion, but he has never disappointed me so far. This film, though underrated and - as you rightly say - somewhat forgotten, is really well made. Anderson partly follows the same formula as The Royal Tenenbaums, but here the effect of the settings and the production design makes all the difference and amplifies the effects. Bill Murray is over the top and Jeff Goldblum is excellent in the role of the "bad guy, but not really." Owen Wilson is even likable. The soundtrack is great (and, in my opinion, successful), and the Brazilian Bowie is intriguing. Great review. As far as I'm concerned, it's one of the best "ocular" critiques I've read so far.
