18 years old? Well then, with time you'll understand many of the conversations that have been held with you; for your age, you know more than many of your peers.

"queen of punk-soul Avril Lafrigne" - "The Pink Floyd have been going on for years with the same 42-inch plasma and the artificial smoke machine; they might as well modernize, right." - "Chris Cornell, a dependable voice in today’s rock music"....It seems to me that this 'review' is crafted as a gimmick to get 1: there you go, you got it.

STONEY: damn, the truth of your last comment is incredible. I'm stunned that someone else sees the transformation of our parents, maybe working-class people, into such normal and integrated individuals that just 20 years ago they would have scorned. Are we all going to become bad copies of ourselves?

One thing, dear Frenk: how old are you? I'm not asking this to feel older myself, but having seen Metallica before and after '90, I can tell you that the change from metal musicians to rockstars was definitely noticeable. Trujillo fits well in Metallica NOW, maybe because they don't have any particularity or even a minimum of bond among them anymore, but do you really think they could have made an album like "Master Of Puppets" with him?
Finally, the term "sellouts": I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings at all, but this word in common usage identifies someone who has given in to the trend of the moment or to a more "pop" movement, and thus more suited to the general public. One example: Chris Cornell has "sold out" (from my personal point of view), and yet it’s not like he increased sales; on the contrary...

Frenk, how can you say they haven't sold out? Don't just focus on the sales, listen to LOAD, RE-LOAD, TRI-LOAD... there's not a shred of new ideas. Can they play? Sure, that's not up for debate, but everything else is missing: desire, passion, originality. I would also add some choices that are to say the least "botched": what the hell is Trujillo doing in Metallica?
And don't even start with the talk about "metal being over since '91," which makes absolutely no sense; they were saying the same about rock at the end of the '70s, about punk rock in the mid-'80s, and about techno at the end of the '90s... these are arguments that are worth nothing.

@FRENK: Well, I don't really agree. Another album in the same genre and style as "...And Justice For All" would definitely have made me happy, but the overwhelming majority of those who are now 25-30 years old discovered Metallica with the "Black Album." Go to one of their concerts and see the people who know "The Unforgiven" and "Nothing Else Matters" compared to those who know "The Thing That Should Not Be" or "Fade To Black." What happened? Is the creative vein exhausted? Have times changed? Is it about making money? The mad cow? The Argentine bond crisis? The upcoming USA '94 World Cup? I don't know, but the fact is that many thrash bands have gotten lost along the way; some have broken up, others have continued in anonymity to make their genre, and very few have continued to receive acclaim. And Metallica have completely tarnished their legacy; when the "Black Album" hit stores, they were already no longer the same, and it’s been 18 years that they have been showing us that.

For me, this is the last Metallica album. And in my opinion, it's stunning, second only to "Master Of Puppets." That said: dear Frenk, was there really a need for the FIFTH review of this record? There are a disaster of unknown bands, many of which even play the same genre as Metallica... I would suggest proposing original reviews. I echo THE PERCUSSIONIST: a de-population referendum on the maximum number of reviews per album!

First review? Nice choice, wonderful nickname. I haven't listened to this, so I won't express any judgments (although I’m sure I’ll like it anyway). One doubt: doesn’t your keyboard have apostrophes?
