I apologize for being poor since I had a '94 UNO. I’m not worthy of speaking with your lordship, automotive-engineering-building engineer, philosopher, political analyst, supreme leader who can do it all.

PUNTINI, I don’t know if you just want to be provocative, but I've rarely come across someone who denies the wave of layoffs affecting the Italian job market, including companies that are healthy or balanced. If a company is doing well, but a merger happens (and the worker might find out just 2 days before), they can suddenly cut 100 jobs, just like that. I’m not saying that all companies are closing down; they might change names or relocate, but do you think it makes a difference for those who are at home?
S.PELLEGRINO (part of the Nestlé group) is set to lay off 280 employees - Micron Technology (a leader in the IT sector) will cut its workforce by 15-20% - DUN & BRADSTREET is restructuring (a world leader in credit information): 105 layoffs in Italy - TELECOM: After announcing 5,000 redundancies last September, in December Telecom decided to raise the stakes by adding another 4,000 layoffs, totaling 9,000 workers who will lose their jobs by 2011 - MICROSOFT (Rome - The results for Microsoft’s second quarter of the fiscal year arrive promptly: the Redmond company shows a revenue increase of 2 percent compared to the same period in 2008, but with profits shrinking due to the economic slowdown. Therefore, it is stated in a company note, about 5,000 layoffs will be necessary to reduce operating costs and keep pace with the market) - NOKIA (Being the unchallenged leader in mobile telephony has not sheltered Nokia from the current crisis affecting all major world economies. In a statement from the Finnish manufacturer, we learned about the intention to lay off around 1,700 employees (out of a total of over 130,000) across various areas: telecommunications, marketing, corporate development, and global support among the most affected divisions) - Then there are smaller companies like SEVES (a multinational leader in the production of glass bricks and electrical insulators) which employs 173 people and is placing 110 of them on temporary layoff. I repeat, Italy is full of people who, unfortunately, are losing their jobs. Add to that the wave of people with fixed-term contracts who are therefore not counted among the laid-off.
Oh, one last thing, Mr. Automotive Engineer: the FIAT UNO has been out of production since 1995. Try typing on your calculator 2009-1995 and see what number comes out.

So... is it just one song by the way? I don’t know, these pathetic pantomimes like footballers doing songs for orphans have never convinced me. This one is no exception.

Dear my Puntinicazpuntini who knows everything and can accuse anyone of “spouting nonsense,” could you explain to me how post 139 relates to my quotation? Are we living in a sick and abstract finance or not? Are there not kilometer-long lists of publicly traded companies that then become untraceable as one searches for their owners among states and tax havens? Regarding the car discussion, do you think the situation improves by uniting the “rules for exhaust filters, carburetors, etc.”? But if I repeat to you that there are hundreds of rules that are completely useless: the BLU sticker is a pathetic pantomime to squeeze 10 euros out of you, as you just change province and it doesn’t matter; you don't even know if they can fine you or not if you don’t have it. The inspection… well, if you know the mechanic, you can pass even without a turn signal or with a chipped wiper, come on. But isn’t it the case that after shaping traffic in Italy according to the wishes of FIAT (virtually total absence of goods transport by rail) and pouring billions upon billions to Agnelli in the past, now that there are 5 cars in a family of 4, we need to find something else to sell them? And let’s stop saying that some laws are made to combat pollution: alternating license plates and closed historical centers on Sunday afternoons are jokes, the PM10 measurements taken when it suits them are worthless. But doesn’t it seem strange to you that nowadays no one has yet found something better than the gasoline engine? We’re driving vehicles that dissipate ¾ of their power in heat! Well… did I need to realize there's a crisis? Don’t worry, keep calling me an idiot, but I see you’re also discussing the crisis. World revolution, you say? Yes, definitely the problem needs to be addressed in macro terms, although a prediction on certain issues seems at least risky and utopian. Meanwhile, let’s try not to let ourselves be mentally raped by what they want us to believe, as keeping us in constant alarm is the best way to keep the masses under control. Is the government working hard to get us out of the crisis? But if the first thing it does is save companies that went bankrupt years ago (Alitalia) and especially rushes to help the banks (among the main culprits of the problem).

@GEENOO: self-criticism above all: I completely agree, but how many people go do charity to feel good about themselves and then don’t even sort their trash? How many people sign against hunting but buy fur? We have become slaves to this advertising-consumerist system, but I’m speaking generally; it’s logical that there are many people who "do" and "work" on improving themselves, but unfortunately, they are the minority. @PUNTINICAZPUNTINI: I don’t know if you’re serious, but why do they make you do the inspection EVERY YEAR for cars older than a certain age? And what are those Blue, Green, Red stickers they impose for driving? Is an old car less safe? Where do you live? A Fiat Uno from the '80s is like a tank compared to most modern compacts, not to mention the engine and maintenance of cars from 15 years ago. Do new cars pollute less? Aside from the fact that excluding methane that’s all to be proven, do you think those who make the laws care at all about pollution? With beautiful, finished hydrogen and electric car projects locked away in drawers since the '70s? Come on.

Regarding companies that turn out to be just names listed on the stock market, I’m sorry but they do not PRODUCE billions; they are QUOTED billions. They don’t produce a damn thing, they are just a name that refers to who knows what and serves various cozy arrangements, they are the symbol of ill and abstract finance that inevitably leads to crises sooner or later.

Then there’s the nice concept of "factories 'leaders in the sector' with extremely high production peaks that close overnight? >> Give me an example, I have never seen one." Sorry, but am I talking to a character from Uomini e Donne? Italy is full of factories that close regardless of production; that does not matter, they’ll just go somewhere else or open another company under a different name. Want some names? SIRMA (Venice) - DAICO, BERTONE, SIMAT ABRASIVI (Piedmont, add Michelin which is closing in Turin to possibly reopen in Alessandria), FILA (a leader in the stationery sector, 150 layoffs), NOKIA (a company that doesn’t seem to be working in a very crisis-prone sector) has laid off who knows how many employees not just in the Caserta area. By the way, do you have any acquaintances or friends who work in construction? I do, and every week they are given a day off to use up their vacation since there’s no work. If the situation seems good to you...
