Metallica: fame. Not skill, commerciality, bullshit, thrash or rock, but notoriety. That is, how many bands make 2-3 great albums and then fade into obscurity, or continue to cater to genre lovers. The Metallica chose notoriety, and invested in it, succeeding brilliantly. Because after "Kill 'Em All" (an album like many that were released in the early '80s), just take the excellent "Master Of Puppets," one of your choice between "Ride The Lightning" and "...and Justice For All" depending on your taste, and the rest is posters and t-shirts, come on.
