@korrea: this is far from a brick; on the contrary, it flows beautifully. However, if you liked the player, the rest of Dostoevsky shouldn't disappoint you either!

Well, yes, let's say that saying a band is dark/glam/prog/etc doesn’t really provide that much information; I agree that it’s useful to give a bit more detail; let’s say it falls under a macrocategory.

I like them a lot; I don't understand why many, even among enthusiasts, snub them and judge them as too "pompous"; oh well!

Ah, then perhaps among the lesser-known works, I really enjoyed "The Memoirs of Hadrian" by Marguerite Yourcenar.

Oh my God, in the end it’s really mostly a matter of personal taste that distinguishes a great book from a Masterpiece. This one didn’t grab me 100%, but I certainly don’t want to belittle it; let’s just say it’s just a notch below. For example, I prefer authors like Sartre, Pirandello, Svevo, Dostoevsky, Kafka, who give me that extra something to make me love them madly.

Well, labels, as always, serve to give an idea; in the end, glam artists share some common elements (like a somewhat decadent atmosphere), and it also helps to indicate a movement, thereby providing not just musical but also spatial-temporal coordinates. On the other hand, even grunge, prog, and kraut see bands with some common features, but in reality, there are also many differences from a musical point of view.

I also share the idea that if I have to spend money, I’d rather have the CD (also because of the collector-fetishist in me who enjoys having a physical medium; after all, you can still convert it to mp3, but I guess it's a matter of sensitivity and the relationship one has with music). In the end, I think that 99% of iTunes' revenue will come from artists like Lady Gaga, Madonna, Take That, etc., so it makes sense that the audience pays less attention to certain aspects or even buys only individual tracks.

@fosca: if you like this, then don't miss the already mentioned Buddha's pinky, which is worth it too! :) If you feel like it, let me know if you liked it! and de nada :D

@telespalla: I agree, The Buddha's Little Finger is also a great book, perhaps even better than this one; well, it certainly criticizes many aspects of society, but in this particular book, marketing is heavily targeted and ridiculed (both indirectly through the rampant consumerism it promotes and in the various advertisements it invents, especially the one for church offers). When I referred to a Dick-like atmosphere, I didn't mean science fiction so much as the general mood that permeates the book (as you had guessed too) and also that mixture of irony, surreal atmospheres, and critique/reflection.

true, this is a great movie, too bad it’s not well-known; for me, one of the best in recent years
