"I wanted to step out of my happy world, delve into the depths of human stupidity, into the ugliness of being obtuse, disloyal, false. To understand the life of losers but without belonging to that world and knowing I could always go back."  (Dries)

These are the motivations that drive the protagonist, a former drummer and successful writer, to accept the invitation to join their band from three dirty and sick societal rejects. A band formed solely by handicapped members. Koen de Geyter, singer and guitarist, a person unable to open his mouth in front of women, absolutely unstable and a victim of his handicap that turns him into a bloodthirsty rape machine. The bassist, Jan Veerbek, with a paralyzed right arm, a maternal complex and an accepted gay until he starts bringing too many to the rehearsal room. Ivan Van Dorpe, guitarist, beast-man, deaf with a drug-addicted wife and a child.

Dries is not so much interested in the group, but he is curious to experience the situation which could be an inspiration for a new book. His culture and his bastard nature can get him out at any moment and allow him to live the experience by manipulating everyone in question belonging to a certain social category, the losers.

A sociological and generational musical pulp, recommended for lovers of Trainspotting and the like, and listeners of genres like hardcore, sludge, and post rock. I'll just name two... Isis and Mogwai, and I don't think anything else needs to be said...
