Henry Selick Coraline

A good review of an absolutely excellent film, the best of 2009 as well as a technical masterpiece. If it doesn't get nominated in the best picture category at the upcoming Academy Awards, it will only confirm the stubbornness of American judges who fail to appreciate the good things produced in the USA even at the mainstream level. The first and last time a non-live action film was nominated for Best Picture was for "Beauty and the Beast": it was indeed a masterpiece, and this "Coraline and the Magic Door" deserves the same treatment (with the difference that this time it must win). Selick is now the new Burton since the old Burton abandoned us to go make trivial films.

A very, very beautiful review: not only did I really like it and it reflects 100% what I think about the novel and the film, but above all it is well written and highlights every significant aspect of the work (or rather, the works). An extremely interesting film, albeit semi-unknown, just like the related book.

Probably the worst movie I have ever seen in my life, and for what it's worth, I use it as a benchmark to judge all other films. Not a single scene, not a single line, not a single frame is saved. The worst of the worst. Horrible. It would deserve a 0, but since that would count as a non-vote, I give it a 1 to lower its average.

I didn't really like the review, actually, because it basically states things that we all know without adding anything interesting: I won’t give it a punitive 2, but a 2 for lack of content. As for the album, even the cover is simply terrifying, let alone the content. "Luca era gay" is the ugliest song of the century.

I remember really enjoying the music videos back then (both the music and the images), but they eventually took a not-so-great turn. I hope to find it in the supermarket’s bargain bin like alia76 too.
Elton John Empty Sky

I really love this album. A friend of mine introduced me to Elton, and I instantly fell in love with "Empty Sky"; for months, I listened to nothing but "Skyline Pigeon" and "Hymn 2000." It may not be worth 5, but I really like it a lot, so I think an extra star here and there is perfectly fine.

Good review, a renowned and acknowledged masterpiece. I got to know it thanks to a friend of mine; before, I considered Elton a colorful pianist, and then I discovered a colorful musician in Elton.
