Lady Gaga The Fame Monster

Okay, for the sake of intellectual honesty, I listened to both "The Fame" and "The Fame Monster," and now I can say with conviction that LADY GAGA SUCKS. A lot. The only somewhat listenable songs are the singles (and then, why "Eh, Eh" is disgusting and will go down in history as one of the ugliest songs ever), everything else from the two albums is so lacking in ideas and so repetitive and so boring that I truly did not expect to find such low quality. I thought: well, they must be two pop/dance albums, if not great at least polished. But no: they are both obscenely bad. I give this stuff a two just because it looks very nice (I repeat: it LOOKS very nice) and because "Paparazzi" is pretty cute. Nothing else. Otherwise, it would be a full 1. Actually, I’ve thought it over: 1, because this rating conveys the sense of "a negative example not to follow," which fits perfectly here. Not recommended even for the brave souls who, like me, couldn't believe it could be that terrible: trust me, it is.

Very good review for a cornerstone film of Japanese animation.

@squall_leonhear: as I wrote in comments #30 and #44, I find that Lady Gaga is a genius in communication, and that musically she is neither trashy nor terrible, but simply subjective (subjective = open to personal opinion). Beyoncé is a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice who usually sings good level R'n'B stuff: now that 75% of her latest album is throwaway, 20% is mediocre, and only 5% (just "Single Ladies") is good, it's a coincidence; in the past she has done worthy things and I hope her next album is better. To sum up: Beyoncé is more beautiful, but Lady Gaga presents herself better; Beyoncé sings better, but Lady Gaga is more captivating; Beyoncé sings better songs, but lately Lady Gaga surpasses her. Who wins?

@nes: just because I like visual kei doesn't mean I'm deaf, okay? It means I ALSO REPEAT ALSO appreciate the visual aspect. In Japan, the visual kei bands that last are only those that have good music AND a great look: if they only have a great look, they break up after three singles; if they only have good music, they turn into hard rock bands (example: Dir en grey); if they have both, they survive. Now let’s not talk nonsense about a topic that's unrelated to this page.

@nes: I have a friend who is a big fan of hers, and he showed me the booklets for "The Fame" and "The Fame Monster," and they're objectively well-crafted. Even her website (http://www.ladygaga.com) is noteworthy: graphically it's well done, but especially noticeable is the photogallery (Info>Photos) which is quite rich and full of content, much more so than the discography. @squall_leonhear: the fact that she has classical studies is commendable, but having a classical background doesn't necessarily mean you'll create beautiful music. Personally, I find it very debatable... let's be clear: not shabby or terrible, just debatable. For example, this performance is genius: Lady Gaga - Paparazzi ( Live at Mtv Vma 2oo9) But it’s the performance that is genius.

I don't vote because I haven't heard the album, but if it's like "The Fame" and especially if "Bad Romance" is representative, then this new EP gets a 2. I've already written this in the review for Beyoncé, but I'll reiterate it here: the only value of Lady Gaga lies in the purely visual aspect, because her image is really well thought out and studied in a way that hasn't happened in pop for years, and on this front, I truly appreciate her a lot (and by image, I don't just mean the look, but also the design of the CDs, the music videos, and everything visual surrounding her). Musically, however, Germanotta has left us with only irritating songs beyond belief ("Poker Face" could be nominated for worst song of all time) and a single catchy hit, "Paparazzi," and nothing else. I am a lover of visual kei music (http://bit.ly/8fti8f) and so I really appreciate her efforts in creating a strong image, but if there isn't decent music to support it, I wonder if her albums are nothing more than a vehicle to spread her elaborate styling.

I admit that the video is cute and also interesting, but the song isn’t there: it’s an anonymous backing track with some anonymous words sung in the bare minimum rhythm needed to even call it "rhythm." Seriously, the song isn’t there, it doesn’t exist. I've watched that video about ten times and still haven’t managed to find a song in it. I'm sorry to write this about Beyoncé because she is truly an exceptional artist, but this single could have been skipped: is it possible that there was nothing better on the new album??? Who knows. As for Lady Gaga: that woman is only worth it on the purely visual side (costumes and looks that are always well thought out and fun), but musically, SHE DOES NOT EXIST.
