Ascanio Celestini Parole Sante

Good review. I haven't listened to the album, but Celestini's "Inchiesta da fermo" is so well thought out, so innovative, and so intelligent that it deserves the label of genius, and I’m willing to give this musical work a 4 on trust. Celestini has proven to be an anarchist in the highest sense of the word, and referring to him as a successor to De André and especially to Gaber seems absolutely apt. As for the political side of things, let's be objective: right now, Italy is not led by a center-right coalition headed by the president of the Forza Italia party; Italy is currently led by Berlusconi: whether you are right or left, above, below, sideways or even slantwise is insignificant; from any angle, it's BLATANTLY clear that the country is being driven by the needs of ONE person (who has many friends to satisfy). And that is today and now. One day a new government will arrive; perhaps we will be worse off or perhaps better, but I trust that Celestini will still be sharp enough to protest against the power even if he himself is sitting in Palazzo Chigi.

@DuaneTheReturn!: and who were you referring to then, considering I am the only one who used the quotes?

@DuaneTheReturn!: Who the hell are you? How the hell do you dare to call me a buffoon? The sentences in quotation marks are copied/pasted from G's review, are you blind? I’m speechless...

I would conceptually agree with azzo, if it weren't for the fact that I actually like television: it's just another medium, whether it's good or bad is another story. Even in music (which is an art, but also a medium), there is crap like Tokio Hotel or Avril Lavigne (to name famous examples), should we then condemn music altogether? Similarly, there’s TV and TV (which is a medium, but also an art). In any case, the review clearly states that one can "report with short reviews the broadcasts that criminalize the Internet": not all broadcasts, then, but only those where the Internet is mentioned in a negative light (perhaps later any broadcast will be reviewed regardless of this principle, but at least there is a basic limitation). I don't see the harm in it, do you? @ G: you have no idea how much I agree with you on this sentence: "Essentially, the watchword [of the right-wingers] seems to be: 'Expose a simplification in a simple manner'." Never was a statement more accurate and perfectly expressed: applause.
Elton John Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

I agree with sonic80: a very lengthy album that isn't always sustainable (an artist's skill is also shown in their ability to prune dead branches), but which, at times, offers pieces of extraordinary quality, not just by Elton John's standards. Perhaps his best album, but we shouldn't overlook the beat of "Empty Sky" and the almost prog "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy." P.S.: "Bennie And The Jets" is a demonstration of how arrangement is a fundamental part of a track, almost more so than the melody, and "Grey Seal" is a masterpiece not missed, but rather perfectly on point!
João Gilberto The Legendary João Gilberto
Voto:
I can't believe someone has written a review on João Gilberto! I was hoping that one day I could write something myself, even though I feel unworthy: bossa nova is one of the cornerstones of the twentieth century, and Gilberto is one of the greatest poets of contemporary music. Even as an old man, in the recent concert in Tokyo, he showed that he is still what the Americans call "larger than life". I recommend everyone to listen to two albums: one is this subject of the review to fully appreciate his art, and the other is "In Tokyo," with which to establish positive comparisons.

Ah, sorry, I completely forgot the album: 3.5 because it’s really rich in ideas, but they’re not always well organized. Much more sophisticated than the first album, but a bit less inspired; nonetheless, it’s really beautiful.

Perhaps I’m mistaken, but I defend MTV: it has different targets depending on the time of day. At night, for instance, it broadcasts fantastic stuff (including Cansei de ser sexy) that ranges from extreme hard rock to the coolest house music. Of course, I realize that the timings are outrageous, but then again, it's a commercial television station, right? To make up for it, for the past two years there’s been "Your Noise": one hour of good music a day (in the late afternoon) where they actually play great stuff. The host is a bit silly, but if you want to see Verdena (and also CSS) at six in the evening, that's the only time you can catch them.

I haven't listened to the album, but I appreciated the review because it was honest in saying that this is still a very immature artist. Let's hope for the best.
