Let's say that if I were still in my twenties (which I haven't been for a long time, damn it!) I would have forced the DJ at the club I used to go to to play three or four songs from this album on repeat. Then I realize that maybe it's an album of potential 11 hits only in my fantasy as a battered former dance-floor goer; today young people perhaps dance to other things, in the meantime there was acid, techno, jungle, electro, and I'll stop here because I dare not and do not know what the hell is danced to nowadays! And then there's MTV playing in heavy rotation the now annoying single - "Great DJ" by the amusing Ting Tings - and not even giving a passing glance to any song from Donkey. But maybe this is because the important Sub Pop simply doesn't have the means of the multinational Sony BMG.

Therefore, for one reason or another, it perhaps quietly passed by, but this is a collection that deserves to be listened to and enjoyed, at least with headphones! The CSS (Cansei de Ser Sexy - Sick of Being Sexy, a phrase taken from Beyoncé) are four beautiful girls and one (ugly!) guy from Brazil; thanks to the power of the Web or their absolute detachment from their origins, they have no difficulty in offering a thoroughly western sound. Comparisons with other champions of danceable pop, mostly from the 80s, are abundant: B-52's, early Ladytron, but also Franz Ferdinand, New Pornographers, basically the best of what has been expressed in this field.

As I said at the beginning, these are 11 potential hits, from the Pixies-oriented Rat is Dead to the more fashionable Left Behind and Believe Achieve. What strikes about them is the ease with which they churn out one catchy melody and rhythm after another, incredibly lively and immediately engaging. Someone else would give who knows what to achieve these results with the same simplicity. These girls have courage and energy to spare. They remind me a bit of the Organ: they too produced an album, "Grab That Gun," which drew from everywhere, Smiths - Sound - Cure, but they did it with a disarming grace and simplicity that made you fall in love with them immediately.

For lovers of danceable rhythms, but not only.
