Sure Fidia, Taranto is dead and is populated by the dead, or rather by martyrs. Let me give you another example: isn’t it chilling to find yourself face to face with a piece of shit like Cito after so many years, who now plays the hero of the people and legitimizes himself on local TV? It’s a city destroyed, without memory and without a future. In my opinion, even the failure of ILVA wouldn’t solve anything, rather "a casa bruciata minti fuegu".

@Fidia, the average person from Taranto for years wanted only answers and partial solutions to problems. The disastrous environmental situation in Taranto is precisely due to this. When there was talk of selling the plants to the Germans and the Japanese in the '90s, the people of Taranto opposed it, blinded by the desire for "comforting answers" and the usual touted nationalism (the same trend that is popular now; it's no coincidence that the hero Riva is part of the CAI consortium). Representatives from the Riva Group would go to production units to tell the workers that if the Germans had bought Italsider, they would have worked the Tarantini like mules, without holidays and without "human relations" (the usual prejudices about Germans). And now at ILVA, they're working more than ever (those working in the blast furnaces do 13-14 hour shifts), blood is shed more than before, and more people are dying, because not a single euro is spent on safety. Being Italian at all costs isn't always beautiful and convenient.

"Made in Italy" originated as a negative connotation, referring to all those products that other major countries allowed us to create; the English were not interested in making clothes. Italian textile or footwear products were competitive not because we developed advanced techniques, but because there was less competition in those sectors. So while the Germans opened Siemens, we made blouses. The relocation of factories to the Southeast, like the situations in Prato and the footwear sector in the Marche, are logical consequences, already anticipated and expected in the 1980s. The problem for Italy has been relying on this Made in Italy, and we did so for too long.
But then, does "made in Italy" really exist? I doubt it. To make jeans, you need denim; to produce denim, you need copper. We don't have copper in Italy, and we have to import it from Algeria, Morocco, or South America. The truth is we can't afford to be giants in the economy (in this economy, with these systems), because we lack resources.

In your comment 39, you forgot to mention another issue. With the Maoist regime in Nepal, these guys control the largest water reserve in the world; we're talking about a basin that satisfies the basic needs of about 2.5 billion people. The Himalayas are Chinese.

I'm so disconnected from TV that I wasn't even aware of yesterday's interview, and I noticed it thanks to your comments. I think the most intelligent thing to say is to watch the video if you haven't done so already.

The review is nice. For one reason or another, I never managed to watch the movie. Is it worth it? Well... regards.

The metamorphosis is the most beautiful and moving thing I've ever read. It changed my life. Maybe. I can't wait for someone to plant an apple in my back.
