Francesco De Gregori Catcher In The Sky
Voto:
From De Gregori's live albums, there are "Niente da Capire," "Musica Leggera," "Bootleg 1993," "Il bandito e il Campione," "La Valigia dell'Attore," "Mix" (partially live), "Fuoco Amico," and the latest "Left & Right," so that's 9... As for the Grateful Dead, my old love, there are dozens, but online you can find over 2000... For the Rolling Stones, there should be: "Got Live if You Want It," "Love You Live," "Still Life," "Flashpoint," "Stripped," "No Security," and "Live Licks"...

Guys, I can assure you that the phrase mentioned is not something I made up; I heard it (with my own ears) spoken by a certain Fabio, one of the guys from the Italian Dreamers fan club. I believe it was back in '99, while I was in line to attend a drum clinic by Portnoy near Pisa.

"Almost definitive" album of the genre, DT never and never again so inspired, probably galvanized by having a new toy like Rudess in the ranks. The band also seemed quite full of themselves if it was true that, as rumored at the time in the narrow circles of the fan club, they were afraid to release such a masterpiece for fear of outshining the disheartened competition and "killing" the market. As far as I’m concerned, from now on the DT will be a bit like the Duracell bunny: unstoppable, relentless, but with little corazon (at least musically).

I don't know what P.P.P. would have thought of De Gregori, but he definitely inspired him to write one of the most beautiful and emotional songs I have ever listened to, and that's enough for me.

@iside: yes, in '90 I was still buying cassettes. The era of the CD (and my downfall) arrived for me in '92, the first albums I bought were the soundtrack of "Singles" and the first Body Count ('s da houze!). Really great times.
@sfascia: as noted by Tom Traubert, with that team we should have won the tournament for bowling, briscola, and sack races.
@tomtraubert: surely the whole triptych is essential; I'm fond of this one, but there are songs in the others that still give me goosebumps today, like "Caterina".

Really beautiful review, the album is uglyuglyugly.

@dull_flame: honestly, I haven't listened to this album, nor will I ever, but I can tell you this: last year, I went to Thailand for a week for work, and I happened to hear the worst "pop" music I've ever heard... I know, Bangkok and Tokyo aren't the same thing, but in my little brain, the music from that part of the world all ends up in one big melting pot (excluding Zeni Geva and Merzbow, but that's not really pop music...).

@Dull_Flame: I don't understand why you keep replying indirectly in my reviews when you could easily do it here. This time I even gave you a good rating! And if you’re listening to some impossible music, that’s not my fault... When I write another one, you’ll be free to insult me or, as you write, to hate me; don’t act like a child, accept the confrontation and defend your positions intelligently. I do it, or at least I try.

Now everyone pretends to be poets or futurists... Try writing in pleasant Italian instead, which is already difficult!

I'm sorry, Sfascia, but I just can't bring myself to like your reviews. Megaloman was a staple of my afternoons; on an emotional level, it would be a 5, but I really can't give it more than a 3...
