Francesco De Gregori Live @ San Giuliano Milanese 20.09.08
Voto:
I saw him in Modena on September 16, at the PD festival, after missing him twice in the last two years. "Almost" full satisfaction, because certain new versions of old songs sound very strange; Francesco today plays at (re)making the more recent Dylan, perhaps he prefers that the audience listens rather than sing the choruses. The impression I had is that the songs, which are "hits" of emotions, are not suitable for stadium choruses and come off as ridiculous when sung by the crowd; it's better to leave it to the main act who, by the way, in his solo interlude, revives a goosebump-inducing vocal style that I hadn't heard in years in the various live albums.

Great review for an album that I will buy sight unseen.

Kid, what a bummer. I've listened to "Sign O' The Times" over and over again, but it's just not one of those albums you go back to often or willingly... I prefer other stuff. On the page, you're right, the best stuff is where they get 3 or 4 people to write bullshit to hit 200-plus posts; those are real shovelfuls of culture!

It doesn't seem to me that he writes very well, in addition to including horrifying sentences like the one about the mutilated. Moreover, he would have saved money (himself) and time (himself and us) if he had informed himself before the purchase, if he had read any advertising page, or if he had taken a look at the back of the package, where it seems to me that the titles of the CD and DVD tracks are listed in detail.

"Mirror Ball" is indeed a Neil Young album. I would gladly listen to the Coachella concert; is it available on P2P?

And who the hell knows him well? I only judge what I’ve heard; I’ve wasted lire and euros on ā€œmasterpiecesā€ like ā€œEmancipationā€ and a few other crap albums from the NPG, or the infamous ā€œMirror Ballā€ before realizing that I could have stopped at the ā€œGreatest Hits,ā€ maybe in a 3-CD box set version. That's where everything the non-fanatic listener needs is.

Unfortunately for you, Prince is that jerk (at least in this circumstance he has proven to be one) who reported his own fans for improper use of copyrighted material.

The dear old Prince might as well piss and shit on the whole world, but I still remember with great affection the live broadcast of one of his concerts in '88 or '89 (it was the "Lovesexy" tour) during which the "genius" was clearly lip-syncing, and when he was in close-up, he held the microphone close to his lips, moving it around randomly in hopes of giving the impression that he was singing. That said, I reiterate that the genius (if we can call him a genius) of Prince does not reside in the quantity of his output, but in the quality of certain peaks... "When Doves Cry," "Sign o' the Times," "Kiss," and "Purple Rain" are excellent songs.
