This is the fourth review of REM, and we were just missing the one from the uncritical and fanatical fan, a bit like if Bonaiuti were to review Apicella's album and Berlusconi... This album wouldn't even get 5 stars on the night of San Lorenzo... All this hype for a predictably "return to rock" meant to ward off declining sales and popularity, since their fans love that sound to madness, and radio and MTV, with the bribes from record labels, will flood the airwaves... An album that will fall into oblivion in a couple of months... "I'm gonna DJ," the new "Song 2"? Please... <<"Horse To Water," two minutes and eighteen seconds of sound fury that would sweep away any NME-friendly guitar band>> Ah well, if your benchmark is that, then we’re all set… Let’s also cover with a veil of pity the introduction to the series "Don't Touch My REM"... My dear, these are the rules of show business, in which Stipe and company have been happily wallowing for years. Does it seem so strange to you that a band that fundamentally plays the same sheet music, even with many happy pages, that regularly occupies space (like U2) to the detriment of new talent, despite having nothing more to say, could have nauseated quite a few people?
