Kyuss ...And The Circus Leaves Town
Voto:
Fascinating and terribly scorching. I'm not entirely fond of the very succinct and dry rendering of some tracks... but come on, it’s a Kyuss album, and it can evoke emotions like nothing else. I was lucky enough to see them live during the Sky Valley tour... I remember that night as if it were yesterday...
Kyuss Welcome to Sky Valley
Voto:
The Kyuss, after the glory of Blues for the Red Sun, were able to sign another wonderful work. Essential and absolute.
Alice in Chains Jar Of Flies
Voto:
Exciting, refined, and marked by skillfully balanced light and shadow.
Shelter Attaining The Supreme
Voto:
I don't have a particular fondness for the good Shelters... however, I admit that labeling those who make "non-aligned" spiritual choices as "little American boys filled with integralist puritanism" seems really biased and quite excessive.
Six Minute War Madness Full Fathom Six
Voto:
Interesting without a doubt, but I tend to prefer the earlier "Il Vuoto Elettrico": to my ears, IVE seems more concrete and sensible... although less experimental.
Sunny Day Real Estate Diary
Voto:
Moody, visceral, emotional... I don't want to sound repetitive, but these are three perfect adjectives for the album in question. "Diary" knows how to dive into the depths with twilight sounds, bittersweet, melancholic... and terribly intense. I listen to it VERY rarely precisely because I am rarely willing to be "eviscerated" so much by an album...
Corrosion Of Conformity Deliverance
Voto:
Deliverance is truly a remarkable record! The stoner, blues, hard rock, and southern rock matrices have been well absorbed and blended into its grooves. The hardcore of Animosity feels like a distant memory, but then again, sincere renewal is often food for creativity.
Girls Against Boys Cruise Yourself
Voto:
Interesting, sure, but this Cruise Yourself has never really struck a chord with me. All in all, I think I'll give it another chance, sooner or later.
Sun Dial Other Way Out
Voto:
Unfortunately, I don't have this... but the name "Sundial" always makes me tingle, as the thought automatically goes to that superb "Acid Yantra," a bright and sunny episode of their career.

A record... honest. Without any absurd pretensions, rather direct, compact, well-assembled, and engaging. I would classify the genre as a "compromised" noise, which doesn't shy away from melodic bursts and clean, "sung" vocal lines. Of course, it can't be compared to Strap it On in many aspects, but this Betty has the quality of being enjoyable, and re-enjoyable, and re-enjoyable... entertaining us without ever overdoing it.
