I don't know, I like both periods, "the piper" is undeniably ONE of the most beautiful, but along with quite a few others from the subsequent period. What I really don't like are those post the wall, those are objectively inferior, by a long shot, compared to all the others... "If I were cool," as Elio would say :-D good review even though I obviously don’t agree at all with the statement "the band had gone well beyond the very first compositions."
