@GustavoTanz: I would say it's more about character and confidence in one's own abilities: they could have easily stayed at the Magic Circle acting as squires to Manowar (who are technically and stylistically much less equipped than they are), but instead they left slamming the door, rejecting any certainty for the future: courageous and admirable.
