Danny Boyle The Millionaire

As soon as I saw it, I was blown away... beautiful story, not bad twists; let's say that despite its inconsistencies, it mostly maintains good levels. But, damn, the ending? What the hell kind of ending is that... (if you want to see it, stop reading now) I mean, I get it, not having great ideas for a final twist, I understand that aiming for an ending like "The Usual Suspects" was a bit ambitious and pretentious, but after all that chaos, 2 hours of film, to arrive at the final question, not knowing the answer, and answering "Aramis" just for the sake of it, with no hint of reasoning or tension on the face, at the risk of going from 10 million rupees already in hand to two lemon teas and half a sugar packet, and justifying it all with "because yes!" -.- that seems like a load of crap to me. I mean, a movie that’s nominated for an Oscar, and at the crucial moment, the response is: "BECAUSE YES!" wtf!? If they had cut the sappy ending and used that time for a decent conclusion (maybe with a nice punch to the host's solar plexus xd), it surely would have ended up being a great film, 3.5 because the idea is interesting and original, and nowadays, it’s something we are increasingly lacking.

I thank you again, Nes, Caz, Panico, and The Decline, for the advice given on the other Boris page. I've been listening to them quite often lately, Absolutego aside, of course :D Speaking of which, it seems like a nice little record; I'll download it sooner or later, great review :)

You see, I start from a conviction, namely that an album doesn't have to be listened to under the influence of any drug to be great. They can certainly help and enhance the listening experience, heightening the vibrations, preparing and fully concentrating the mind on the piece and its every little nuance. The point, however, is being able to evaluate whether without them we would still be able to get passionate about certain records. Absolutego, for example, is a fascinating album in its slow madness; it would probably be even better under the influence of some mescaline (although even sober, listening to it feels like your brain is slowly being unscrewed by a rusty screwdriver), but I believe that a record should be assessed in its entirety, without the "help" of external elements. Based on these premises, the first full listen of Absolutego (an attentive listen without ever stopping the CD or fast-forwarding) turned out to be the last as well; it was more than enough for me (I don't think many have made it to the end listening like this, without "cheating" :)). I definitely prefer Heavy Rocks (yellow), but also Flood, Smile, or some things from Amplifier Worship, so I can at least claim that my state of increasing psychological instability is at least justified by something damn cool to listen to.

In fact, this is the first review of this album, and since you came looking for it in person, I suggest you get a good pair of glasses ;)

Thank you for the advice, I wrote down all five so I can listen to them at my leisure. I gave Smile a first listen, intrigued by Nes's recommendation and Caz's obsessive and spaced-out piece. At first glance, it made a great impression on me; it seems like one of those rare albums that it's impossible to rate with just one of these three scores -> 2,3,4. The strong thing is the combination of a music that's heavily distorted, raw, and hallucinatory, with a title and cover that are so warm and angelic xD We'll see with more listens. Anyway, if this is for kids, I can't even imagine the others :/ Panic/Decline, I can't wait to listen to the 65m of Absolutego .
