It's an album that left me with a bit of bitterness. That's how I feel about it, even though I'd give it a 6 because these days they no longer produce extremely terrible things. I also think "Wrong" is a great track; I'd also mention "Fragile Tension" (which wouldn't have been out of place in "Playing the Angel" which is much more cohesive and determined than this one), "Little Soul" (finally something that we don't often see in Depeche Mode), "Jezebel," and "Come Back" (it feels a bit familiar, but to me, if it weren't for certain arrangement redundancies, it could have belonged in some sort of lesser "Violator").

I've had this record for about two months now, and you've really taken away my "word-of-mouth review." "Alight of Night" is a pleasant revival that reminds me of a non-stop half hour that always maintains high energy without losing style and refinement, the splendor of the Velvet Underground and Joy Division. All of this is immersed in a funereal, daydream-like trance, as if Lou's apathy goes hand in hand with Fraser's dream, yet still retaining that raw and garage spirit. In short, it may be a revival, but what I love is all captured in this little gem, which remains one of the best of 2008, in my opinion.
