Autechre Confield
Voto:
Excellent album, although a bit academic, it seems like a release in which B.& B. aimed to focus on the excursions of the beats, creating a revised and corrected summa, as well as painstakingly blended, of all the various rhythmic solutions experimented over more than a decade. However, even following this path (more "trance" than "ambient"), they manage to be "damn" atmospheric... too bad that, in a certain sense, "Confield" represented a sort of watershed and the subsequent production is rather "tired" and "lacquered"; it could have been a much more worthy starting point.

I can't know, I've never had the pleasure of meeting him; when contacted by phone this summer, he said he wanted to remain an "indefinable entity" (but he was the only participant who sent us a booklet containing his photo!)... if he pulls the same trick on us next year, though, we might also contribute to making him "an even more indefinable entity"....; )

He’s good, he is... but also a bit of a jerk... every year he sends us samples for the electronic music contest we organize, me and some friends... we select him and he, right on time, declines... saying he doesn’t feel like performing!!! So why the hell does he sign up, then????!

29 minutes on my display... with "South of Heaven," I get 36 (almost 37), so we're getting closer, but what do Slayer have to do with Anathema?!

The album, not the review, I mean!

The previous year saw the release of "Lost Souls" by the Doves, which, as a debut (among the "next-big-things" Britpop), may even surpass this one...sure, in the end, these Albions, despite their media flip-flops, tend to deflate after a few releases...the Arcade Fire remain, in any case, 2 or 3 notches above all those mentioned so far. I'm giving it a 4 for excess, but it would actually be a 3.5.

Oh no, Bartle, you’re letting me down! I know this and "Elaboration of Carbon" (what followed, no!), but nomen/omen, they are classic west/coast style trying to play with compressed rhythms and expansive atmospheres. For heaven's sake, they’re even pleasant, but they always remain blue-collar workers trying to cut butter with a trowel!!! For quality post-metal (in terms of a blend of calculation, derivation and more or less explicit elaboration) I would look elsewhere… but I can’t oppose the quality of your writing… Has the influence passed?! The “blue-collar” workers never stop working!!

Aleeeé...aiactaest! We’re having fun with proto-imperialist games, huh, masser(izia) Sfascia?!! Why not try switching to Risiko (and then rosiko)?! Let’s charge into GnoccaLand...after conquering the strategic territory of CUMchatka, essential for any subsequent act of braggadocio! Look, I rolled a nice 15 with the throw of 2 regular dice (but also, fakes like the 6 fake tits on the cover!).
Ozric Tentacles Erpland

Mmmmmh, it could be, both performed after sunset, that's for sure, but it seemed to me that the Ozric played muuuch later (though maybe they just pretended to play muuuch later, I mean when I wasn't high anymore but dead drunk : )
