João Gilberto Amoroso & Brasil

Alright, I'll say it: over time, Brazilian music tires me a bit, particularly the beautiful but monotone voice of Astrud Gilberto. I prefer Antonio Carlos Jobim to Joao Gilberto.

Among the greatest masterpieces of music! Hi Black, I was about to give you a 4 politically correct rating but sorry, I'd rather be honest, I really struggled to get to the end; I found the first part a bit too vaguely poetic, and the second part not very effective...sorry!! Jake, in my opinion, these, Lorca, and Happy Sad are mandatory! But if you want to see how his beginnings were, I recommend a CD that combines the two LPs: Tim Buckley and Goodbye & Hello; super melodic and incredible voice! 9.90 euros for two great albums. I don’t know Blue Afternoon, though...

Ajeje, make an exception! 90% of people would remain not positively impressed, so as a general piece of advice, I think what I said is useful. Then again, you’re talking to someone who listens to every kind of music, even stuff that's not easy to digest. I’m now capable of taking in everything; there's nothing that scares me, it’s not like I have to prepare myself to listen to "difficult" stuff! But others, perhaps younger and less "experienced," would do well not to bash their heads against the wall too quickly... then everyone can think and do as they please, of course, but it’s undeniable that with the system I propose, the chances of success in increasing listenership improve! Lux, it really seems to me that I’ve read all the posts, but it's not clear what you mean by "sense"... oh well, patience, you were the one needing clarification, not me ;-) Happy weekend to everyone and a big kiss to the excellent reviewer Dolphy, who might want the discussion to end here!

Perfect for eros, for the afternoon, for the evening, when you can't make too much noise with various batteries and high volumes ;-) Never in the car!!!

So, since it seems to me that the conversations are really drifting off course, I’ll say this: if someone has only listened to rock until the day before, they have little chance of appreciating B.B. the next day. And they also have little chance of appreciating Kind Of Blue for that matter... if you have this "problem," you should start with records that share with rock the immediacy, that have engaging but not overly complex rhythms, that feature "catchy" themes. Not too abstract, in short. Many records from Blue Note could work well, for example, as could many live albums! As your ear gets accustomed, it certainly becomes easier to understand and appreciate the various abstractions and nuances of more complex albums. Personally, I got to B.B. after absorbing dozens of other jazz records, and I had no particular difficulty understanding it. If I had started right off with that, I would probably have been as disappointed and confused as Lux! Anyway, Lux, stop asking "what's the point?" because it’s a pointless question! First of all, what do you mean by point or message? Mozart's music, for example, was all commissioned; it had no hidden meaning, it was just stunningly beautiful... that was its point! But if by point you mean the "coherence" of the instrumental passages, like "in B.B. everyone plays for themselves!", I assure you that it is not like that... they play freely but not randomly! But you can only grasp this if you understand the grammar and syntax of their musical language...

Alessio..."THROW YOURSELF ON ME"??? You can't be like Gustavo, can you?! And anyway, I’ve never spammed anywhere, in that review of Nirvana I just expressed my opinion, by the way politely, if I remember correctly.

Memorable concert!! Do you remember the percussionist's solo? Among Sonny's best albums, I would also mention "Plus 4," the obscure "Tour De Force," truly devastating as the title suggests (he has never played with such speed), "Volume 2" (Blue Note), "Freedom Suite," the already mentioned masterpiece "Sonny Meets Hawk," "East Broadway Run Down," the excellent compilation "Silver City," a double CD that gathers the best of his Milestone period (if there was a bit of "disorientation" during this phase), and the outstanding recent releases "This Is What I Do" and the beautiful live "Without A Song."

Ajeje, I’m not saying it’s a mandatory path, but rather "facilitated." The ability to listen improves over time and with experience, and it needs to be trained gradually. If lux has reached an obstacle, it's because he hasn't followed a facilitated path... it's like if on the first climb someone started straight from K2 without first tackling Velino, Mont Blanc, and so on.

I just got the duo Sandro Satta-Antonello Salis "Live At Radiotre" from 2001 a few days ago. Satta is truly one of the greatest saxophonists in the world!!
