John Scofield En Route
Voto:
Eeehm, Doc, Dolphy, Muffin, I swear, we didn't coordinate...;-) Emanuele, no, the grade is not enough, feel free to comment!! ;-))) Jake, for the next one I'm open to suggestions... I'll throw one at you: the recent "Joyous Encounter" by Joe Lovano, with Hank Jones, George Mraz, and Paul Motian. Or a classic from one of the Great Dragons... P.S. can you give a nice 4-5 to the record?
John Scofield Time On My Hands

Dear colleague, I’m pleased to note that our partnership has been a success! I agree as well to involve Doc next time. The album is really very good, one of my favorites by Scofield, and a crucial step in his career, but for me it would be a 4.5, almost a masterpiece. Excellent Joe Lovano, like everyone else! The true masterpiece of Scofield, however, is in my opinion the wonderful "Quiet" from '96, where he plays acoustic guitar, accompanied by Steve Swallow, Bill Stewart, a small ensemble of winds that plays extremely refined scores (arrangements worthy of Gil Evans, truly sublime stuff), and the presence of the giant Wayne Shorter on some tracks. Delightful compositions, not a note out of place. That’s a 5/5; I wanted to review it but it was already done! Anyone who doesn’t know it should rush to listen...and also check out "Time On My Hands" and "En Route," of course, otherwise why did we review them? ;-)

The Italian Language, poor Lady! First abused, then raped, and now, considering the level we have reached, destined to die... shame on you for being accomplices to this outrage. You think but do not understand, you look but do not observe, you hear but do not listen. You type but do not write. But perhaps the biggest problem is that you live but do not die.

I know about the reunion but I don't have the records! I doubt they repeated the "one shot" of Free Fall, but anything is possible ;-)
Thelonious Monk Genius Of Modern Music Vol. 1 & 2

Hi and thanks for being here! The comparison was only about originality in composition, regarding a specific piano style and a certain degree of misfortune that links them together. But as for greatness, there’s no doubt that Monk overshadows them, even though the other two are excellent artists! I completely agree on the importance of Monk for Coltrane’s development. Coltrane referred to him as "a high-level musical architect"! Someone said that Miles did Coltrane two great favors: 1) hiring him; 2) firing him. He actually went on to play with Monk. I would add a third and a fourth favor: 3) he called him for Kind Of Blue, "teaching" him modal jazz, of which he became the champion; 4) he gifted him a soprano saxophone. Monk's influence is vast and covers all instrumentalists... consider Steve Lacy, Roswell Rudd, and Alex von Schlippenbach, who dedicated entire albums to his compositions. Do you know Schlippenbach's triple CD "Monk's Casino"?

What are you talking about? Do you think Colaiuta is ruining his reputation? He is a PROFESSIONAL; he plays on commission for those who can pay him adequately, and he plays WELL! So he does his part; he doesn't make a fool of himself. It's not like a good barber ruins his reputation by cutting the hair of a mess... that person remains a mess, but the haircut itself may be excellent or functional enough not to worsen the flaws!

It's been on the list for quite a while... I have no doubts about the quality of the music, the same goes for the quality of the review! Do you know "Hotel Hello" in duo with Gary Burton? P.S.: I also mentioned the Giuffre/Bley/Swallow trio (and their masterpiece "Free Fall") in a review of mine that will be coming out soon!! And last night I saw the Abdullah Ibrahim trio at the auditorium... I've never experienced a more "intimate" concert.

Marpado is now officially elected as the spokesperson for those who have a hint of self-awareness and good taste; he always finds the right words to highlight the servitude of the beast-dwarves towards this filthy illiterate. Look at the cover, the gaze of this deficient being... how can anyone hang on his every word, damn it!

Take a good look at her: she looks like a big bug, at best a hermit crab!
