Joe Satriani Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock
Voto:
As a boy, I adored him. Seen live once, he surely delivers a lot! An honest and genuine artist, who seeks communication beyond virtuosity. Among the various Steve Vai and Malmsteen, he's definitely the "least bad"! However, he's not a genius; the artistic results are very inconsistent even within the same album, alternating between banality and small gems.

It's true, the goose step was a Nazi thing. But is a duck and a female duck the same thing or are they different creatures?

;-) For me, it’s not a great album, but it’s a super funk fusion that some might like. Everything is very technical... it’s up to you!

Enough with this son of Zocca!!
Thelonious Monk Genius Of Modern Music Vol. 1 & 2
Voto:
It's a live tour de force where all 70 known compositions of Monk are performed, some perhaps only hinted at, others dissected more calmly. It’s not an epoch-making masterpiece; I would give it 4 stars, but the undertaking is titanic and deserves the highest praise! A good practice would be to listen to them all in succession, as a form of "spiritual purification"!! ;-) P.S.: thanks for your trust!

But isn't it called "passo d'oca"? "Passo di papera" is just unbearable...

Doc, something tells me you’re talking about "Uberjam"... Scofield sounds fantastic even in the double live ECM "Trio Beyond-Saudades," in a trio with Larry Goldings on the Hammond and Jack DeJohnette on drums. A tribute band to one of the very first fusion groups, the amazing Lifetime by Tony Williams (with John McLaughlin on guitar and Larry Young on the Hammond). I saw this lineup live at the Casa del Jazz in Rome two summers ago, incredible (and that summer I also enjoyed Ron Carter in a trio, no joke! It was raining and the whole audience had gathered at the foot of the stage, what an emotion!)

If Morning and Giovanni are interested, up until yesterday there was my review on Scofield, "En Route" on the homepage! P.S.: but is advertising allowed? ;-)
Krystian Zimerman Live@ Parco della Musica, Roma -16/04/08

Hello Vera. I completely agree with your analysis of the pianist Zimerman. For some strange reason, it seems common that, as they age, many musicians "withdraw into themselves." On the contrary, some great old jazz musicians seem to return to being "children" (I’m thinking of Sonny Rollins, Ornette Coleman, etc.), who knows why! It’s unrelated, but I was curious to know if you had a chance to listen to the extraordinary Chopin by Rafal Blechacz, which I mentioned to you some time ago. Best wishes!

As Loren said, anyway, this album "accattatevillo" is definitely worth it!! Got it, MUFF?? ;-)
