I'M COMING!! Beautiful review, and it's amusing to note our almost overlapping affinity in the way we talk about Ralph ;-) I confirm the beauty of "Drifting Petals," which is also on Solstice, regrettably left unmentioned in my review. I'm dying to know about the lunar crater anecdote regarding "Icarus," and I wonder if it's true... "since there is a lunar crater named 'Icarus' in his honor." Wait, in honor of whom, Icarus or Towner? Is someone at NASA a fan of Ralph? I want to open a parenthesis on "Some Other Time," a beautiful piece that was once the foundation for two other genuine jazz pearls: "Peace Piece" by Bill Evans and "Flamenco Sketches" by Bill Evans/Miles Davis. Bill was preluding "Some Other Time" for the album "Everybody Digs Bill Evans" in '58, but he made a "mistake": he delayed a chord change. Given the dreamy beauty of what he was creating under his fingers, he deliberately continued and gave birth to an immortal impressionistic masterpiece, worthy of Claude Debussy. This piece was named "Peace Piece" and included in that album instead of "Some Other Time" (now included as a bonus track). When, a year later, he was called by Davis for "Kind Of Blue," he proposed the idea of making a piece similar to "Peace Piece," but based on a chord progression (5, all played in modal) instead of a single chord. Davis chose the chords, and "Flamenco Sketches" emerged, the most exquisitely modal piece of Kind... what an endless universe jazz is!!

Doc, I'm running super late... is that allowed? Congratulations, I agree with the analysis, and for me, the album deserves a full 4!

Mmmmhm, title copied from Ornette Coleman's quartet? Quotation? Coincidence?

Praise to the Art Ensemble Of Chicago! I will never listen to this record out of respect for Tom, who, however, is quite the opportunist and has pocketed a nice chunk of change.

I'm arriving late and I'm running behind!! Thanks everyone! I'll come back... P.S.: of course only Jake and Doc have made an agreement, I knew nothing about it! ConteDeSade, bad guy, I'll let the "notorious player" thing slide since I have nothing to say about it, but I'm offended by the co-review!;-) And remember that the only Count on Debaser is me...
