Honestly, you seem too critical, considering that the engine at the time was state of the art. Doom 3 was truly garbage in comparison to this, which at least has excellent gameplay, really enjoyable characters (I'm thinking of the technician Strauss, who is hilarious in his being Sturmtruppen) that mimic those from Aliens: The Final Battle but are well-developed, despite the inevitable stereotypes. Also, some maps are very well crafted, and there are interesting ideas (the "strogghificazione," for example). In short, I remember it being well made and very fun, okay, not a masterpiece, but not the crap you’re talking about either. I won't comment on the multiplayer; I was referring to the singleplayer. That said, in terms of graphic engine, a Prey (which I didn't mention before) is definitely superior!

And why shouldn’t Quake 4 even be mentioned?

I loved it madly! The death knights charging at you, the horned demons leaping onto you, tearing you apart (pure terror), especially in the dead of night. What settings… the most fitting monsters in the history of shooters. The orc with a chainsaw and grenade launcher was a true stroke of genius! Blowing up zombies with the grenade launcher was a delight, not to mention the super nail gun... what memories!!

Fuck, I grew up with FPS... with this one and the second chapter, then Duke Nukem 3D, then the gothic masterpiece Quake (the music by Nine Inch Nails is amazing!), the sci-fi Quake 2 (similar to Doom in setting), Half-Life, Unreal. Then came Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament, where multiplayer finally reached new heights. Up to modern masterpieces like Far Cry, Half-Life 2, Quake 4, Bioshock, etc.

These days I am repeatedly savoring the work that, although I know almost by heart, I listen to periodically. God, the opening theme of the third act is a real gut-wrencher! The emotional peak of the entire work for me, on par with the incredible finale.

Too long a receipt for the time... an immortal masterpiece of video games! Truly quality music, haunting and claustrophobic. Does anyone remember the first onslaught of the zombie dogs in that goddamn white corridor, when they came crashing through the windows shattering the glass?? Heart attack material...

Seen...they communicate to me disgust for fanaticism. I was already disgusted by it before. And then?
