Tom Waits Blue Valentine

@mucchidossa: yes to that, even though I put the term rap in quotes, it doesn't quite resemble it. In fact, I wouldn't know how to define that fast, rhythmic way of singing, improvising even the lyrics, I believe (at least in part). It's also interesting how he sings in "The One That Got Away" and acts in "Small Change."

He has to pay to be with a beautiful woman! Corona, I've never seen you this polite on television... I have doubts about your identity... you are not the one who gets with Moric!! Anyway, even if you're not a famous pimp, you still provide a service that has its social usefulness, and you help many desperate people!

I have a special, difficult relationship with Tom... most of the time, I really appreciate some tracks from his albums, I absolutely detest others (repetitive to the point of nausea), and some others leave me indifferent. This album is no exception. Additionally, his lyrics seem inconsistent in quality. I give it a 4 (instead of 3) because here we have "Red Shoes," "Romeo," "Graveyard," and, of course, "Valentines." His way of using his voice is extraordinary, and he can be very versatile! Does anyone remember his "raps" in "Small Change" from '76? In my opinion, Tom's best and least inconsistent album remains "Swordfishtrombones" from '83.

And then you called me an ASSHOLE for no reason... and you come to tell me that I can't call you a loser because I don't know you? But do you know me, pear head? What do you know if I'm an asshole or not? Enough, I'm giving up. An aggressive extremist like you can't teach anything to anyone. By the way, you have the audacity to present yourself as a MASTER while at the same time criticizing know-it-alls and those who act all high and mighty (you can, and others can't?). In short, to get along with you, do I have to pretend I’m worthless and bow down? Get out of your mind. Piss outside the pot. Goodbye.

And if by "sbobba" you mean music that isn't strongly experimental, then poor Bill Evans! And poor Sonny Rollins, Oscar Peterson, Art Tatum, at least half the catalog of Blue Note and Verve, and so on and so forth. In jazz, the most important thing is improvisational skill, interplay, timbre and dynamics, having a recognizable sound, REGARDLESS of the starting material! Whether they are standards, original pieces, or total free-form improvisations, it doesn't matter WHAT is played, but HOW it is played.

Dear my growling Yorkshire, first of all it’s not a triple, but a sextuple, and this proves what I knew: you don’t even know what you’re talking about, and you negatively rate these masterpieces WITHOUT EVEN HAVING LISTENED TO THEM!! Secondly, the hysterical one is you, always shooting down everything and everyone with your dogmatic preconceived notions, while I have always maintained control and have never dreamed of insulting ANYONE. I know Jarrett's early works very well, and I like them (just like HUNDREDS of other works by other artists). And what makes you think I don’t intend to review them, sooner or later? But when and how I decide that is up to me! Should I review everything right away? Why do you think you can tell me that? You're bordering on madness. Better a snob at 25 than a loser at 42.

I picked the wrong record! Sorry, I was sure it was "Blue Valentines"! My apologies... I don't know this one. I'll revote taking into account how the others have voted so far in order to make my intervention as neutral as possible.

Psychology studies, Nick? Congratulations on the analysis, quite detailed and on point! @editors: do you consider the gratuitous insults to be acceptable? Is there anything that can be done to try to maintain a bit more civility and respect?
