Thank you, I truly find it my worst... it really embarrasses me to reread it!!!

Nice to meet you, dear, thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed it!! I took a look at your profile and your comments, and what can I say... I find you very likable. Be careful, you've made a mistake about Muffin; they are one of the best people on the site and very knowledgeable about jazz and cinema!! The only flaw: they can get dragged into lengthy squabbles by some provocateurs, and woe to anyone who touches Frank Zappa ;-)

Catch the essence of the album well, that’s what matters, whether you’re a “specialist” in the genre or not. It’s a very interesting record precisely because you can feel they’re about to take off, but something still keeps them grounded... Panic, would I really bear this responsibility?? On which page would the “enlightenment” have happened?? And to think that the ingrate has never thanked me...

Hi Jake!! I missed this back then... great review as always and an amazing album, really enjoyable, which I'm savoring these days!! One of those "mainstream" pianisms that's rhythmically and harmonically very captivating. I miss your reviews ;-)
John Coltrane Ballads

Yes Muffin, actually I misspoke!! I just wanted to say that if it had been up to him, meaning if he hadn’t had any external influences, he wouldn’t have thought of making those three albums... He accepted the proposal, but more as a "game" and because he shared the producer's intention to win back the favor of those who considered him a "fuming" saxophonist, rather than out of artistic expression needs. And being a great professional, as well as a great artist, obviously the outcome was good in all three cases. But they weren’t a step forward in his search. It's like saying, if he wanted to, he could have done that too, and done it better than many others, but his true self was another. It happens to all of us in life to wear clothes that don't belong to us, and to discover that all in all, they don't look so bad... but in the end, it’s about interpreting a role that isn’t ours, and we would have done without it if we had only followed our own will.

Between 3 and 4.
John Coltrane Ballads

I remind you that he didn't even want to make this album; it was imposed on him by Impulse, along with two other "mainstream" records like the one with Johnny Hartman and the one with Ellington. The reason: to offer another (distorted) image of Trane, a proper, well-behaved, gentle and romantic Coltrane, a Ben Webster, to put it bluntly. A different image from that of a hyper-technical, angry and verbose casino type, which he "enjoyed" among the bourgeoisie. This time even grandma wouldn’t have anything to say, it could even be played in the background while, on Sundays, the Smith family gathered to eat turkey and sweet potato pie, spewing nonsense and clichés.
John Coltrane Ballads

Considering Coltrane's masterpieces, this one is a 3-3.5. Made by another saxophonist, it would have been an excellent ballad album rated 4-4.5!!

"See, the milk cow..." (and the girl with the big tits starts giving him a blow job in the car). A Joe Pesci out of bounds!! But it's a 4.25-4.5.
