Come on, it’s not that bad! Just to say it’s a record from '95, and it was a bit of a comeback after a break; and to reiterate that the son Denardo on drums is a bit of a nepotism hire, that’s all. Of course, the cover is really awful, isn’t it? It makes you think of one of those little English bands playing lousy pop rock ;-)

The following excerpt gives a clear idea of Archie’s lucid ideological rage. It is taken from a Down Beat article addressed to white readers: "I am an anti-fascist artist. My music is functional. I play music that speaks of my death at your hands. I exult because I live despite you. I give you a part of my life every time you listen to me, which today hardly ever happens... I will not allow you to mold me to your liking: that era is over. And if my music isn’t enough, I will write you a poem, a play. And at every moment I will tell you: tear down the ghetto. Set my people free."

I recommend you get besides the aforementioned, "The Way Ahead" from '68, where the piano is reintroduced at his request, in the person of Dave Burrell (one of the best in free jazz). Also interesting is the debut of "New York Contemporary Five" from '63, featuring Don Cherry and John Tchicai.

Very good Dolphy, I would have given you a 5 if you hadn't fallen into the track-by-track trap! An essential album by Shepp, who still isn't among my favorite artists. By the way, the reworking of pieces by Coltrane was a conditio sine qua non from Impulse, to "give permission" to Shepp to record for them. You see, at first they didn't want anything to do with him, nor with his material. After all, Impulse wasn't (and never completely became) a "free" label (and John had yet to record A Love Supreme and Ascension). They didn't feel like taking too many risks. Nonetheless, Shepp didn't bat an eye and accepted without any issues because he adored John (like all music lovers). A fun fact: to take the cover photo, John was thrown out of bed… you can't see it, but he's in slippers ;-)

Haven't you been a bit vague, Jake? It's fine to aim for brevity and impact, but sometimes it wouldn’t hurt to say a bit more... well, everyone has their own style. The album is nice, but I don't think it's a 5 compared to Ornette's other masterpieces.

Worse than Rotten, for god's sake! And to think the video started off well, with the friend licking her tits...the caption "daddy must be proud" (Oscar-worthy) doesn't completely make me regret watching it! Anyway, you all suck. Especially Blecche dogghe. Screw you.

Oh dear, I'm reading this now because of the last comment!! Damn André, what a déjà vu, doesn't our friend remind you of "someone"? ;-)) Don't get mad at Dolphy, he's JUST LIKE me, so he's a good guy! Of course... COOL JAZZ? BACK TO ACOUSTIC? COMMERCIAL FORMS? How can I defend you? But above all, YOU FOOL, did giving it 4 stars slip out of your sphincter? Screw you and Franco! And you Dolphy, give him a hard time and enjoy it while you can because soon you'll become friends and the fun will be over.
