Ella Fitzgerald Sings The Rodgers And Hart Song Book

MAY benefit. Muffin, I think that was Norman Granz's fault. Sheila Jordan definitely deserves mention and honors! I appreciate Billie Holiday a lot as an artist, but less as a singer, if you know what I mean. She is incredibly intense, but I don’t particularly like her tone and the way she sings. Hi Melissa, I’m giving you a mini list of my favorite Monk compositions, which I highly recommend you listen to: "Bemsha Swing," "Blue Monk," "Brilliant Corners," "Criss Cross," "Epistrophy," "Four In One," "I Mean You," "In Walked Bud," "Monk's Dream," "Nutty," "Off Minor," "Pannonica," "Trinkle Tinkle," "Well You Needn't." There are multiple versions of each; I recommend listening to each "original" version, that is, the least recent one that first appeared on an album.

Thank you all for being here! I'm sorry that not everyone liked the review; maybe it's a bit too "professional"... But that's just my style; I enjoy educating and informing, and in this case, I took some time to "explain" the usefulness of knowing the vocal versions of the standards well in order to fully enjoy the improvised instrumental versions. Sometimes I prefer that my writing may be less "poetic" to read but more USEFUL for a hypothetical reader who, not being very familiar with the subject of discussion, can benefit from my "mini-manuals."
Miles Davis Kind Of Blue
Voto:
Oh dear... too elegant, understated, cool, sober, chic? It doesn't shout but it's INTENSE. Try listening to Blue In Green again! By the way, what was Davis, an angel? He got clean in '54, but by '59 he was a cocaine addict and semi-alcoholic ;-) Of the seven musicians on the album, I believe only one or two weren't drug addicts, by the way. Not that it's a positive thing, mind you! It's just that you were making the equation: non-addict = precise. Believe me, they were sick too, but you beat them all if you get to jam with Sun Ra!! ;-)))
Johann Sebastian Bach - Glenn Gould Variazioni Goldberg (1981)

Ah Ah Ah, Gonzo, you’re not the first to say that to me! You should have added "of me" to make the complete quote ;-))) A big thank you to the latest commenters, you’re too kind! Vortex, thanks for your input, the discussion on the philological interpretations of music written for harpsichord is indeed always open, but I am convinced that if Bach had had a piano, he would have used that! Gould managed, with his extraordinary technique, to create a sound poor in resonance to "simulate" the harpsichord, but there are also interpreters like Richter, for example, who plays The Well-Tempered Clavier on the piano using the pedal extensively, and the result is wonderful... what matters is the final result, the rest is just a bit of snobbish talk from purists in my opinion. Pulp, inside this site they always want to mess with me, what can I do... too bad they’re almost all (presumably) guys! I think I’ll remove the photo ;-) I wish you a good listen for when you get it!!
Antonello Grimaldi Caos Calmo

I will probably see it! The reviews are good, but I'll wait to rate it after watching the movie. Federigo Tozzi can go to hell, "qual è" without a doubt is more elegant this way.

For me it would be a 3, but I’ll avoid ruining the average ;-) As for the album, what can I say...a must-have! Ron Carter is my favorite bassist, just for the record.
Jim Hall Concierto

Who would have thought that the first would deliver such a review on one of the best jazz albums of the '70s? The best album by Jim Hall, by the way...well done!
