This review clearly shows a chilling truth: those who truly have some culture and write with knowledge are seen as eccentric or dissociated, and therefore are never taken into consideration. It’s better to put on an air like everyone else and talk about trivial things, passing them off as something else, so that people understand you right away and perhaps feel less envy. Even here, on DeBaser, a tangible sign of times getting worse.

Metalselo... what kind of nonsense is this? You judge a drummer by a sestina?! Do you know how many drummers mess up live? I don’t believe that a musician’s worth can depend on such a stupid thing. But why do you metalheads come crashing down to reality when you realize that these "sacred monsters" are human too? I remember back in 2000 in Rome, people were incredulous when Portnoy made a mistake on the drumroll in Pull Me Under, which everyone considered an "easy" piece (I wonder why, though). But do you really believe that these guys are omnipotent gods?

To me, this myth that Metallica aren't "technical" is starting to get heavily on my nerves. Has Ulrich never amazed? What do you mean, good reviewer? That he doesn't show enough hyper-technical finesse? That he doesn’t play incredibly difficult offbeats or mind-bending compound time signatures like 99% of his peers? Well, who cares. Excuse me, but where the hell is it written that drumming can only be done one way? Why don’t you just listen instead of always expecting something? I can’t imagine Kill 'em All, Ride The Lightning, and Master of Puppets with a "neat" drum sound, and I don't see why I should. Saying that Ulrich has never amazed means not having understood a damn thing about Metallica for the past 20 years, in my opinion, or having listened superficially while making sterile comparisons.
Piero Pelù Live @ Palasharp, Milano 10.09.2008

Pelo Pelù is one of the countless Italian singers who appeal because "he must appeal," just like many others who manage to fill stadiums because TV says "everyone likes them." How many times have I found myself in front of people telling me, "You don’t like Vasco? What?! Everyone likes Vasco," and I believe the same goes for Pelù. I've always wondered how many people go to these concerts because they are genuinely drawn to the music and how many do so for the youth-popular phenomenon they feel they "must" be a part of. Don’t waste your words, take my advice, music doesn’t matter here; if it did, you would realize it’s so insignificant that it doesn’t make sense to talk about it. And every now and then, ask yourselves some questions about your personal tastes before giving 5 stars to such useless people.

"The English band Gorerotted has decided to get serious." Damn. Just think if they had instead consciously decided to make us laugh.

But why always the same damn speech about the little teachers? You write stuff like "dissenzo" and "soggiocato" and I can't even point it out to you, actually, you even want to be right? Then the little teacher is you, dear reviewer.

Bartle... so explain to me what it had to do with saying that Slayer are better because they have never given in to the temptation of playing an arpeggio, and that when they finally did, they still remained evil...

Bartleboom... There is a limit beyond which one ceases to be bad and becomes RIDICULOUS. Many of the groups you mentioned are far beyond this limit, not to mention that 90% of the other metal bands out there "believe" they are evil (in fact, their fans believe it), while in reality, at best, they are just pathetic, loudmouthed children who have grown too old. Furthermore, I’d like to point out that EVIL is a rather vague concept, and expressing it with heavy, hard sounds is the most mundane thing in the world, just as it is trivial to express "love" with a slow, boring ballad like Baglioni. Regards.

In my opinion, not all the parts on this album are played by them, especially when it comes to the drums: both stylistically and technically, it's clear as day that on many passages it's not Lars behind the kit. It might just be my impression, but deep down I don't think it's such an unlikely thing.

In the meantime, I've heard this blessed Formation Of Damnation by Testament that many are making all sorts of comparisons with. Now, aside from my personal judgment, you need to explain to me how you can define this latest work by Metallica as "derivative," or criticize the copy/paste of the sounds from ...And Justice For All when, on the other hand, you exalt an album that is practically IDENTICAL to The Gathering, which, among other things, contains ALL the clichés of Testament from the '80s to today. I would love, every now and then, to get inside your head and know what goes through your mind while you listen to the music...
