By now, with their third studio album, the English band Gorerotted have decided to take things seriously by giving us a good brutal-core product that is decidedly over the top, technical, and varied, managing to engage the listener without bogging them down with unnecessary verbosity, but without resorting to difficult solutions either. Although the genre's standards are respected, they don't incessantly rely on rhythms based solely on low-string riffing but manage to weave in catchy melodies, if you will, without weakening the structure of the nine tracks on the CD, thus giving the work a personal and truly incisive touch. The use of voice is good, surprising, and doesn't fixate on monotone tones but varies, opening up into more screm-oriented parts. The rhythmic work done by the band is lethal, always precise and sharp. "Pain as a Prelude to Death" and "Fable of Filth" are bullets that hit the target with devastating impact, not to mention the concluding track, "Selection and Dissection of Parts for Resurrection", which in its eight minutes represents the clear manifesto of the variety expressed by Gorerotted, a result of the most diverse influences. In essence, we expect a lot from these guys who, if they want to, can deliver (hopefully not screwing up).
