Porcile" is Pasolini's work that best expresses his thoughts and therefore his discomfort. In his critique of common morality, the rampant bigotry that pervades the world, Pasolini destroys time and destinations, making his thoughts timeless and universal, suitable for everything and everyone. It is tolerance that marks differences, that highlights non-acceptance; it is compassion and the compassionate that make any real empathetic impulse impossible. The theme that permeates "Porcile" is the impossibility of living according to one's own coordinates, according to one's own instincts. The impossibility of preserving the cannibal me from the cannibal world.

"Porcile" is a work committed to making the unhappy few reflect.

There are two stories alien to each other, yet so alike. A cannibal traversing the slopes of Etna waiting for the body, attempting the life, of his prey in a Spanish-like Sicily where Pshysis and Nomos are still the same thing. A twenty-five-year-old bourgeois, neither obedient nor disobedient, but still different from the father, who hides his dissent in coupling with pigs in a post-Nazi Germany where the dream of the great Germany is not yet dormant, where Jews are still the pigs. Both protagonists will be engulfed by the world, both will end in the stomach of the beasts. From an isolated man-cannibal, guilty of having killed the institution-father, guilty of confining himself in a scenario (Etna) that reeks of a Dante's inferno, symbolizing amorality, guilty of being the different one in a world too closely tied to the divine, he will become the world. The wheel of history, so surreal, yet always the same unto itself, turns and it is the world that becomes cannibal. It is Nazi Germany swallowing humanity (humanity in the sense of what is human in man... humanity in the common sense of the term does not exist), it is bourgeois morality erasing everything that is not bourgeois morality.

"Porcile" takes no prisoners. It condemns everyone, from the first to the last, from the young anti-communists who went to piss on the Berlin Wall in defiance of those who lived in that wall to the parents who always wanted a projection of themselves in their offspring. There is no redemption, there is no possibility of salvation in this world now anthropologically subjected. There is no hope in this pigsty where everyone eats everything, where the individual must be the whole.

Pasolini will collect the fragments of reactions and moods broken in two by the diffusion of this film and will load them, emptying them of symbols incomprehensible to most. From the synthesis will be born "Salò or the 120 Days of Sodom", from the need to truly live himself, he will end up dead... devoured by the pigs, incinerated by tolerance, misunderstood like all that remains beautiful yet to be understood.

"A few nights ago I dreamed that I was on a dark street, full of puddles... And there at the edge of the last of these puddles, there is a pig, a piglet…
I approach it, as if to grab and touch it. And so happily, it bites me. Its bite tears four fingers from my right hand, which nonetheless remain attached and do not bleed, as if they were made of rubber… Who knows what the truth of dreams is... besides making us anxious for the truth."
