It's pointless for you to defend yourselves by thinking that many people detest them because of their political ideas: they are detested because they suck, no matter what, that's it, got it now? :)

But why is it that every time someone tries to say something against Dream Theater, they have to be accused of intellectualism? It seems to me like those political debates where the opponent's attitudes and the psychological mechanisms that led them to formulate their ideas (partisanship, bias, personal interests, idealisms) are criticized, but not the ideas themselves. Davide, I know, but DT fans are convinced that DT are not commercial, do you understand the drama? DT fans are like kids watching Japanese cartoons: they get excited when the protagonist uses a lethal technique against his opponents that was thought to be impossible, and then the next day they discuss with friends whether Goku or Ken the warrior is stronger. I am convinced that the mechanism behind it is exactly the same; music is just the adolescent transposition of a childish, playful mechanism and therefore completely alien to any musical or artistic dialectic. And it’s dangerous to be convinced that one is discussing art and culture when in reality one is just playing with toy cars.

This book already exists; it’s called "Brave New World" and it was written by Aldous Huxley back in 1932. Metalheads like to act cultured and alternative, but without putting in too much effort. DT promptly responds to the need to combine these two characteristics: they make you feel superior to your trendy classmates who "follow the crowd" but don’t force you to endure boring jazz or dodecaphonic music. Could this be a "commercial" gimmick as well? Noo... what am I even thinking! :D

The Seattle scene has left behind a trail of dead from suicides or overdoses, which have at least sadly shown some consistency with what they sang and played, rest in peace to their souls. The singer in question, on the other hand, is still among us, stealing precious oxygen, much to the dismay of all those who truly know grunge and are horrified by facile and sterile comparisons born from musical analyses conducted by pimple-faced idiots with fake journalistic aspirations.
