It is obvious that Iron Maiden will no longer reach the levels of "Powerslave" or "Number Of The Beast".
And that Motörhead will not release another "Ace Of Spades".
And that Guns won't return with a second "Appetite For Destruction".
And that we can't expect another "Paranoid" from Black Sabbath.
And that we won't have another "Rust In Peace" from Megadeth.
What then can we expect from Metallica? Return of "Master of Puppets"? "Ride The Lightning" again? "Kill'em All" - The Return?
I would say no.
Well, when I heard they were going back to their roots, I was quite optimistic, of course I wasn't expecting a masterpiece.
When I heard the album I understood what they meant by returning to their roots. They probably have returned to the fetal state. I wouldn't be surprised if in June in Rome we could see them on stage sucking their thumbs and feeding from mom's tits. Now don't get me wrong, I'm a big Metallica fan and I'm not trying to achieve the highest number ever recorded in a review, I just want to give my opinion on this album (if we can call it that).
There have been enough track by tracks, I'll just say that "Death Magnetic," aptly titled, Metallica are attracted to suicide, is a huge copy paste. All the songs, except perhaps "All Nightmare Long", undoubtedly the best, sound like déjà vu. The biggest trash of the album is "Suicide & Redemption", a poor copy of "To Live Is To Die".
I swear that when the CD was over I felt like crying. Metallica died along with Cliff Burton, the two following albums are his legacy. I would have disbanded them after the Black Album. A nice solo career for Hetfield wouldn't have been bad.
A countryman, a tennis player who plays drums like he plays tennis, a guitarist who thinks he's Santana, and a Funk bassist playing an album defined as Thrash Metal. Lord save us. This is Trash Metal.
"Death Magnetic would undoubtedly win the Grammy for the most talked-about album ever."
"Welcome back, Metallica!"
"They should have titled the album 'Jamescantameglio' instead of 'Death Magnetic.'"
"'The Unforgiven III' sounds really bad, it's ugly, pathetic, pitiful."
With this album, the rediscovered Four Horsemen ride high again on the treacherous paths of Thrash Metal.
Death Magnetic is better than the infamous Black Album, which I never considered more than a good album.
"Death Magnetic shows that a new golden age for Metallica is impossible."
"All nightmare long' is the song that shows how Metallica, especially Hetfield, can still give a lot."
"Robert Trujillo represents one of the two main strengths of the work; incidentally, the other is the rhythm guitar."
"If the entire CD had been at the level of 'The Judas' Kiss,' one might have even been moved by such well-crafted metal in these dark years for the genre."
