I think the truly unbelievable thing about this film is Hannibal's personality. It's not clear what pathology he has, and it's not clarified in the film either... He is evil without remorse, without a hint of impulsivity, a skillful simulator, incredibly intelligent, diabolical and rational, but this is not a profile of a serial killer; it’s an enticing and fascinating profile, typically cinematic but, in my opinion, not corresponding to reality. Real serial killers are not that perfect, that cold and unattainable... They are terribly disturbed individuals, shaped by childhood traumas and scandalous, unbearable family situations; their emotionality is shattered, and they can only simulate coldness and a lack of emotions. In reality, their existential discomfort surfaces in all its grim misery, and there is nothing diabolically fascinating about them. They seldom hear voices or have multiple personalities; schizophrenics rarely commit murder; real serial killers, unlike those in films, are simply sociopaths at their final stage. I agree, I hate Wes Craven and all that nonsense like Scream, etc. I also love Hitch and Cronenberg... I’m going for a little swim at the sea, bye Mistergigi :-) :-)

Tumani Diabate has nothing to do with these, but since we were on the Afro theme somehow and we both appreciate Volta... I can't find this album nor did I find another one "teacher don't teach me nonsense," so I will listen to that one first.

beautiful ghemison...you know I listened to "Kaira" by Toumani Diabate but honestly I can’t digest it, really monotonous according to my tastes...I truly believe this album you reviewed is more suited to my ears.

MisterGigi: it’s unbelievable but not ridiculous... unbelievable because Hannibal had little time to do everything, but what he did is not impossible... not ridiculous, I wouldn't say that; Demme was clever enough with the staging not to fall into that trap. Hannibal is not a man; he is something else, something different from any human being and therefore capable of things that we could never be able to do. Here, madness is almost seen as a superpower.... in fact, Clarice, when asked by her colleague what Hannibal is, responds: "There’s no word to define what he is!" It’s a thriller, and like all thrillers, the villain and the hero are somehow superheroes. That’s how I see it... of course, there are thrillers that truly verge on the ridiculous and farcical, even while trying to be serious... I think of "L’altro delitto" by the overrated Kenneth Branagh with ex Emma Thompson... that was truly ridiculous, not to mention the final clowning around...

Now who is that knocking
who's knocking at my chamber door
Now could it be the police
they come and take me for a ride-ride
Oh, but I haven't got the time-time
hey-hey-hey, she's busy
sucking on my ding-dong
She's busy sucking on my ding-dong
oh, now do it just like Sister Ray said
I'm searching for my mainline
I couldn't hit it sideways
I couldn't hit it sideways
oh, now just like, oh, just like oh

MisterGigi: my judgment is naturally based on the impression it left on me back in the cinema... it’s been quite a while since I last saw it, and frankly, the inconsistencies in the plot escape me. However, inconsistency is often a prerogative of thrillers and it’s not that serious unless it veers into the ridiculous and grotesque, which this film does not... if the scenes had been more subdued, I don't think it would have benefited; rather, it wouldn't have been so revolutionary and would have fallen into the usual dullness. Obviously, if it came out now, it would be a good thriller, well shot and nothing more. :-)
