KANT what are you talking about? So movies like Metropolis with outdated special effects are just little films because the effects don't hold up? Just like many other masterpieces where the special effects are outdated, like "2001" which you mention (the effects are outdated and are noticeable), it's a masterpiece regardless, because it's the content of the film that makes it great. Sure, good effects enhance the overall experience, but that's just a detail...

I had a feeling that the movie would be half-baked right from the start, even though Cameron is an excellent director (just look at Terminator)... but it seems too focused on the effects. By the way, I watched a 3D short of Shrek on DVD, and by the end (15 minutes) I took off the glasses and my eyes started hurting (it lasted only a few seconds), but with a film that runs almost 3 hours???? Are we sure this 3D gimmick doesn't hurt the eyes?

Great review... I'm currently reading "The House That Trane Built" (the story of the magnificent Impulse record label) very nice and full of anecdotes... and for someone like me who owns at least 60 Impulse records, it's truly interesting...

It's a very rough review, perhaps not one of his best; he has created unparalleled solo piano pieces, but it's certainly a good album... "the excessive improvisation of this album has made some songs too repetitive in their tempos and tonalities" I don't understand that!

Wynton Marsalis From the Plantation to the Penitentiary

It is almost established that Wynton is the most technically proficient trumpeter in the history of jazz; he is certainly not an innovator, but I find some of his albums to be valuable (even if they are within tradition), very beautiful (among those I own) "Blue Interlude" and "The Magic Hour," nice "Standard Time vol 1," while I have but have yet to listen to "Marsalis Plays Monk - Standard Time Vol. 4," "The Midnight Blues - Standard Time Vol. 5," "Hot House Flowers," "Joe Cool’s Blues," and "Live At Blues Alley." Excellent review.
